1990 740GLE 16 Valve “Eve”
It’s been quiet on the Volvo front for me for a while. But I recently got some enthusiasm again and showed some love for the 740 and added some bling. I added the Volvo type reflective stripes to the front and rear bumpers and finally got around to fitting the genuine bonnet protector. I also splashed out on a period NRMA grill badge. It sits well on the chrome grill in my opinion, but I guess I’m showing my age.
The stripes look great. Can I ask where you got them from ? Are they genuine or aftermarket ?
I have a nostalgic fondness for the grille badges, I think they look good!
Thanks for the reply. Could you please, if possible, provide a link to the one you used on eBay. I’ve found a couple that suit but not sure on the quality of the tape. I too have a 740. Cheers
I can’t figure out how to copy a link from eBay onto here. I’m finding this new format harder to use than the old format.
My 740 is a 1990 . It appears a 1cm tape would fit nicely.
Thank you, will do.
On my recent visit to the UK, I brought home some bits and pieces that I had been accumulating over time. Because I’m tight, I have been getting them posted to my in-laws house to save on postage. Then just had to pack everything in my luggage to bring home.
The first things I’ve fitted are these timber (tongue in cheek) door trims.
I thought I’d be able to simply remove the carpet insert, and fit the trims, then re-fit the carpet insert. NO WAY!
The whole door trim had to come off, without breaking rare plastics. PHEW, job done.
I know faux timber plastic is a little cringe worthy, but 740 interior plastics aren’t exactly high class anyway, so I thought FUCK IT. I’ll add a little fake touch of class.
They look great. I've got the faux wood trim on the dashboard of my 940. I've always wanted the door inserts to match too.
After a fair bit of googling, cleaning, bulb testing and very careful plastic teasing and manipulation, I’ve managed to replace the tired, broken and loose black plastic dashboard trims. I brought back from the UK a full set of unbroken faux timber trims. Still equally plastic, but it has solved the loose fitting switches etc.
BEFORE PHOTO,
AFTER PHOTO,
The UK headlight switch resulted in the headlights coming on with the ignition. I didn’t want this, so I managed to carefully dismantle the switches and swap over my Australian item to the UK panel.
I also found the under radio cubby insert that my car was missing,
The felt liner is not perfect, but it now has the lip along the front edge and doesn’t have the gaping hole at the back where the old EQ unit was. Small details, but things that have been bugging me since I bought the car.
