Thanks for the reply. Could you please, if possible, provide a link to the one you used on eBay. I’ve found a couple that suit but not sure on the quality of the tape. I too have a 740. Cheers

I can’t figure out how to copy a link from eBay onto here. I’m finding this new format harder to use than the old format.

Beep What year is your 740? 1989 or earlier needs a wider stripe.

      My 740 is a 1990 . It appears a 1cm tape would fit nicely.

Google 3M reflective tape, many will come up even local safety suppliers

I’m thinking I couldn’t get stuff to work before so where am I located!?

On my recent visit to the UK, I brought home some bits and pieces that I had been accumulating over time. Because I’m tight, I have been getting them posted to my in-laws house to save on postage. Then just had to pack everything in my luggage to bring home.

The first things I’ve fitted are these timber (tongue in cheek) door trims.

I thought I’d be able to simply remove the carpet insert, and fit the trims, then re-fit the carpet insert. NO WAY!

The whole door trim had to come off, without breaking rare plastics. PHEW, job done.

I know faux timber plastic is a little cringe worthy, but 740 interior plastics aren’t exactly high class anyway, so I thought FUCK IT. I’ll add a little fake touch of class.

They look great. I've got the faux wood trim on the dashboard of my 940. I've always wanted the door inserts to match too.

Brad Cool, I haven’t completed the dash components yet. But I’ve noted the UK headlight switch has 6 pins, but my old 740 switch only has 4.

After a fair bit of googling, cleaning, bulb testing and very careful plastic teasing and manipulation, I’ve managed to replace the tired, broken and loose black plastic dashboard trims. I brought back from the UK a full set of unbroken faux timber trims. Still equally plastic, but it has solved the loose fitting switches etc.

The UK headlight switch resulted in the headlights coming on with the ignition. I didn’t want this, so I managed to carefully dismantle the switches and swap over my Australian item to the UK panel.

I also found the under radio cubby insert that my car was missing,

            Image description

The felt liner is not perfect, but it now has the lip along the front edge and doesn’t have the gaping hole at the back where the old EQ unit was. Small details, but things that have been bugging me since I bought the car.

Front bumper has gone to the paint shop for a spruce up. The clear coat on the grey trim around top edge has been peeling ever since I got the car. So I thought it was time with nationals looming.

New steering wheel badge. Small, but very satisfying.

……. and new seatbelt buttons in the front. I don’t have to look at that crusty old drivers one anymore.

Love this 740. She's a fabulous museum quality version up close in person. Lucky to have seen it twice. Now with even MORE mint items on it.

New exhaust going on today, from the cat back.

I got this from Volvo Penrith last year, it was the only genuine kit available in Australia at that time. Roughly the same price as a mild steel one to be made up.

I also got new muffler support brackets and rubbers while I was in the UK earlier this year.

This ugly tailpipe will be gone forever!

But I’m still on the search for the black plastic trim surround that a previous hacked away! Grrrrrrrr.
