I think my altinator has now also fallen from grace. I just charged my battery 13.5v. When I start the car, switch on everything I can and take a reading I get 12.25v. I thought a good altinator makes around 14v??

I checked the voltage before I charged the battery and was just above 10v - very dim lights. Tachometer not functioning.

Am i on the money?
13.6 to 14.4V is good for an old car.
12.25 is not enough.
Have a look at the 144 again and I think it may provideth. Failing that find one in a side of the road bommadore
If it has the serp belt type pulley you need to swap on your pulley otherwise good
Obviously we don't know the battery history, but keep in mind it could have a bad cell too. (Get it load tested.)
Also don't rule out bad ground or voltage drops. Takes a little bit of time but at least you know it's not wiring. If battery hovers around 12.6 it's probably good.
I would love to do this fun rally except I bought my car a tad over the limit ($1000?)
I almost bought one of the volvos at the auction from the last rally, brown early 240 wagon.
So, does anyone have a spare altinator kicking around? Or if I use a commodore one - what series (eg. VK,VN,VS,VT)?
Bye bye 144!!! I did not raid and pillage you. I left you complete.

The sale of this car will go to the charity fund raising account.

egads;82770 wroteYup, I have one. How soon do you need it?
No mega rush. I have to head up to Yass in a few weeks to get rally tyres from Nathan. Can you keep it aside for me? Happy to wire / PayPal you some funds.
Sure, will keep it stashed. Just fix me up when you head out here
Boom, let me k ow if you want your wonderful Volvos detailed people!

Nice idea! @paul0075 you should mention it at the next Thursday Night Hangs
