Yesterday I replaced the driver's door card. It was stuffed and as luck would have it , it was one of the few RHS front door trims in stock (new-old-stock) from GCP in this style. Maybe the only style still available N.O.S.
Maladies on the old card…..Armrest is not connected and bangs on my knee.
Burn marks on the manual winder and it bangs on the speaker when winding.
The whole thing seems to be "bloated" and ingressing into the cabin. I'm sitting left towards the centre of the car. It's actually making the whole driving experience uncomfortable. The seat indicates this has been happening for a while, the cusion seems to be worn to one side.
Anyway…..get the hardware off.
She's got a bit of "flop", lost all rigidity at the base.
Pop it out for a look at the back. Yeah she's toast.
Comparison old vs new. Camera angles make one look bigger but they are the same size.
Pop in the armrest spring clip. A pox on the guy who designed this. Terrible to get in, you need three x hands. I did rotate it around a bit more
The plastic sheeting was flopping around loose ex factory and looks like it had a dab of that black butyl in a couple of places, but that was it. I cleaned it thoroughly & sealed the whole lot in.
Marked and carefully punched a hole for the door winder.
Scavenged the clips from the old door card after removing the stock DL speaker cover.
Removed the mirror control cover for better access and installed the door
Screwed the hardware in and found I could not install the mirror cover. So disassembled the whole lot again!
Put in the mirror cover and this time wound down the window and it all fitted up nicely. Little bit of a "bump" on the top vinyl which I will heat out with a hairdryer or heat gun.
New speaker cover is a cosmetic improvement.
