Buff and waaaaaxxxxxxxxxxxx.
"Big Red" is long overdue for a buff and wax. It's usually the first job I undertake with a new car.
Thought I'd try buffing with a dual action buffing machine, so off to Autobarn where I picked up a cheap dual=action buffer. I also picked up a Meguairs DA foam cutting pad and some Meguairs Ultimate compound. These were highly recommended.
Driveway served as the detailing area. V40 as the workstation.
Found another use for the ever versatile V40 cargo area. I was fuelled by Pepsi Max and Winfield Blues.
First time on a D.A. buffer and I found it much easier and effective than doing it by hand. Polishing it using the recommended 2ft x 2ft section at a time. The Meguairs compound was a very fine compound and did not clog their pad & not overly aggressive on the duco. I found it to be a very usable combination.
After the polish, hit it with some Turtle Hybrid Ceramic coating which goes on and come off easy. Again a 2ft x 2ft area at a time.
Then the Carnauba wax. They say to do it in 2ft x 2ft sections but I always commit in full and polish it all off. I usually use German P21S but it was getting old, so used Mother's as a back up.
Very nice finish once completed.
Windex the windows, dressed the tyres, treat the bumpers and treat the bottom trim.
Took her to a local park for a couple of pics in fading light, the shadows were getting long..
The old warhorse came up all right.
As an aside it seems this may be an Australian only colour. It's CLR319 which was Nissan's "Beacon Red" 319. Both Nissan and Volvo were made at Motor Producers Limited in Clayton Victoria. So the 240GL shares the duco with R31 Skylines & Pintaras assembled during the same period. It's got a touch of orange in it and oxidises orange rather than pink.
And a couple of pics at sundown.
I'm beginning to appreciate the 240GL a lot more after putting the work in. Creating a mirror shine on that lovely CLR319 duco has gone a long way in improving relations! It is really looking the goods now.
