Couple of new rear looms. Here's one.
Old wiring was very old and looked like it was bare in places. Turned out to be a rust stain.
Tailgate board had a heap of self tappers. Obverse side lived up to expectations!
Towel between tailgate and roof.
Broomstick for a little extra support.
Hinges both came off easily.
Cut the old loom at the hinge, taped it to the new connectors and chased it though the tailgate frame.
Terminals connected straight in. I had to recover the old molinex-type covers on a couple. Dose of De-Oxiit for good measure.
Clipped neatly in place. I also used some good Tesa duct tape for good measure.
Good dose of 303 for the rubber seals after washing all the dirt and grime off.
Poked the other end through the roof and located the hinges loosely. Seated the rubber seal around the hinge with a scribe to start with but found bamboo skewers were a lot less aggressive on the rubber edges.
Both license lamps worked and needed a clean. Two x female wiring terminals were badly corroded and replaced. Still getting nothing on the multimeter from the rear screen demister so will need more diagnosis and work.
RHS was pretty well the same except for this gooey tangled Hydra mess. Lots of Mineral Turps and Citrus Goo-Off to clean it. This stuff is friggin awful.
Part numbers on old looms suggest they might be factory original or OEM replacements. Not 100% sure.
Final out come
Number plate lamps- Good
Demister - Nothing
Wiper- Nothing
Central locking on tailgate - Nothing.
So 25% success rate with further diagnosis work to do. Connectors on RHS could still have goo on them, earth could be bad, wiper motor could be seized, wiper switch could be busted, relay fried……quite a few possibilities. I'll go though them all with a multimeter tomorrow.
