Couple of days away to Newcastle with the missus while I'm still on vacation. Got to see a F-35 in action at Williamstown.
Quickly went through the window washer setup on Wednesday night before we headed up north.
The window washer system was a mess. Clip in electrical connectors had orange coloured degraded PVC insulation material which is a mongrel to get out (regular needle nosed pliers just don't fit), corroded bullet connectors, a blocked rear washer check valve, corroded cad/zinc plated fittings, rear nozzle seemed blocked. Rear VDO washer motor seemed dead.
Pulled the rear washer motor out and disassembled. I know from Benz experience that some of these 40 y.o. used VDO parts are higher regarded than newer aftermarket units. Impeller was seized and needed a bit of wiggling and some lubrication. Cleaned it all up.
Powered it up and it now makes a noise and pumps water. Rear nozzle was blocked and cleared out with some fuse wire. System was still blocked between the motor and nozzle.
Found out there was a check valve behind cargo trim, tried blowing/sucking and it was solid and then started blowing air straight out the bottom. A puddle of water near the drain hose after running it also confirmed a busted diaphragm. Sure enough.
So waiting on a couple of check valves and some PVC bullet insulators. Put it back together so I have a functioning front washer but will need more work.
