I will take a look into it, im not familiar with volvo engines, i liked the sleeper nature and the affordability, which is what brought me to a barra - get a whole car for 1000 bucks and have most of the puzzle pieces that way ;)

960 straight 6, 3 litre >200hp with lots of potential. MUCH lighter than a barra and would probably work out at similar cost at the end of the day. I think his still has the 4-speed auto attached too. It already fits in the tunnel too, with less stuffing around. With only ~1300kg in a standard 240 it doesn't take much to get them up to sleeper stage.

Theres a lot to be said about keeping it Swedish, The Volvo 2.8L T6 can put out a lot of power with few parts and a moderate amount of work, a set of ebay H beam rods, a HX40 and your usual go-fast bolt-ons and you can easily make well over 350 killowatts at the rears.

If only people knew Volvo's engines were built as well as their cars were, then again... Id like them to stay cheap ?

Just picked up the project an hour ago.

Wow, going to be a bit project!

I am so here for this, I love a good basket case resto

This one has been a long time coming! Looking forward to your updates.

      Hi Guys,

Was a big day to pick it up (about 3 hours each way) - then Took 3 hours to get it off the trailer (when i asked if it had any tyres i should have asked if any of them held air hahaha) - discovered a species of spider previously unknown to me.

The vision has changed from when i first started this thread many years ago, but ive now got a clear picture of what i want to create.

I do some backyard rust repairs and repainting, so those jobs will help me fund this.

One of the modifications i would like to do is update the rear end. - Would a Bootlid from a later model like this one fit? I can see the shape of the rear quarters is a bit different (as are the lights) - but is the opening the same?

Rear end is totally different, you'd have to chop a fair bit up to make it work. If you wanted that rear end but otherwise wanted a '78 looking car, I think it would be much easier to get like an '81-'84 model and swap the guards, bonnet, grille, etc. No welding required.

Yeah I thought as much might be the case, I like basket cases tho so I am happy to do it the hard way

The boot lid, quarters and beaver panel are different between your car and the later style pictured. The early cars have quite the following now. Personally, the '79 onwards style (like the green car in your last post) is my preference.

If you're already doing rust repairs and bodywork, swapping over might not be too hard, but its something you'd probably want a parts car for.

Would look so much better without the dumb louvres . The car has exquisite style, why fvk it up with ugly 80s plastic abomination!

You should run both the exterior louvres and the interior louvres just to annoy @Ex850R ?

Hi Guys - just wanted some information. It appears there is a "5 panel" and "6 Panel" Version of 240 tail light for the early/mid 1980s generation. Do these differ on market / specification level? My preference is for the 5 panel (Im aware they wont be a direct fit).
