Hi everyone,

thought I’d introduce myself and finally start a thread for my T-5R that I acquired in the middle of 2020. Some of you may be familiar with this car, previously owned by @martin who had done a splendid job so far of restoring it.

It still requires a lot of work, as is expected of an almost 30 year old car. I’d been chasing some electrical gremlins for quite some time and after taking it to several places (and spending $$$$) it turned out to be a faulty MAF. It’s been great since, sorted the A/C out (hallelujah) so have been using it as a daily. It still has what I would describe as a flat spot around 3-3500rpm. I’ve ordered a new PCV kit, spark plugs and wires so hopefully that will help. Also ordered a new expansion tank and all coolant related hoses in silicone.

I’m also in the process of replacing the old boost control solenoid with the newer Pierburg TCV. While I’m in there I’ll replace all of the vacuum lines, can anyone confirm the size I need? I read 5mm, I had some 4mm on hand so tried that and they were snug.

In terms of cosmetics, I just recently had the wheels refurbished, front bumper repainted and fitted the Volvo Composites splitter. The rear guards have been rolled now too, just need to buy some 10mm spacers. It’s booked in for a paint correction, detail and ceramic coat next week. Can’t wait ? next will be to tackle the headlining and get the windows re-tinted.

Now for some pictures!

Hi Shady , car looks fantastic there , nor or sor ?

Think I'm running 5mm hoses . Pcv is a pain but well worth doing . Looking forward to reading more as you go on ?

Cheers Steve, I’m NOR just near Whiteman Park.

I’ll get some 5mm and give that a try. I was going to attempt the PCV myself but it’s a big job, might give Andy at Polestar Technic a go. I’ve been incredibly disappointed with Perth Swedish and FOG.

Whiteman Park isn't too far away for you , I'd give him a go . He's only just started but worth it . I'd like to see his business grow as he's got a good attitude and won't fob you off ?

Nice, I think I know of five T-5Rs now, including two others on here I believe. Welcome to the forums!

Five in Australia, and two or three belonging to Oz Volvo members, one being @Jamest5r_ and I forget who has the others.

There's a black sedan that lives near Ballarat, I work on it occasionally.

Theres a yellow T-5R wagon here that I know of, I think Tristan’s sedan went east when he sold it.

I think mine was from QLD originally. Would be good to find out it’s history - a mechanic here refuses to work on it as they thought it was ‘heavily modified’ once upon a time. I do know it was crashed pretty bad, had some severe wheel rub on one side and it turned out the K frame was bent.

I think I've been to the same garage couple years ago, he refused to work on parts of my car due to it being modified ?

      7 days later

Mid-paint correction, all the cloudiness on the rear door panel has been removed and it is looking amazing ? Should be picking it up in the next couple of days.

Does anyone know where I can find 10mm spacers in Aus? Ideally don’t want to buy OS and have to wait ages.

        Looking good!

If you buy from FCP EURO good chance they come in a week.

So I'm intrigued, called dumb lol . What is paint protection, ceramic coating ? What's involved ?

I've just had mine ant the tt painted recently so wondering if I should get both cars treated..

10mm spacers for the rears ?

Hopefully bump into you at some point at a WAVE meeting ?

Paint correction, pretty self explanatory. I don’t know the fine details but it would involve cutting and polishing to remove flat spots, imperfections etc. A ceramic coat protects the paint from the elements, stops it from deteriorating. It’s also heaps easier to clean, and with a black car I ain’t complaining!!

Yeah for the rears, have you done yours? I’ve rolled the guards so may even be able to go 15 or 20 if I remove a bit of the plastic guard.

Paul sent me some photos after he’d finished. He said it was pretty tricky as the respray was not the best but I think it’s come up pretty good.

Ceramic polymer. It's even used in the drive through car wash I go to , dilute spray on but boy it shines after and bird poo , dirt etc washes off with a spray during the week following, if I was bothered I was going to buy a tub of the stuff from AliExpress.

Diy and tons left much cheaper than the scam ones in auto shops ....

H&R 12mm? I saw those last night and thought they’d be perfect. If you don’t mind I’d love to see how they fit. Why aren’t you using them anymore?

            No they're not H&R

I had them on when the Volans were on

Now I'm running 28mm adaptors rear 21mm front for the bbs Jag wheels as the wheels are ET60 ?

              Oh nice!

I’ll flick you a message to tee up a time to come pick them up. Legend
