When it comes to bigger tyres, there are steering lock stops on the axle ends that can be adjusted. Ended up with more lock on my dads disco compared to its previous poorly adjusted setup.

I've picked up a set of 245/75R16 mud tyres and a set of Disco steelies that need painting, but I can't decide on a colour.

Sounds good and actually not all that loud.

Yeah it's quieter than I expected, especially from inside. The little hotdog gives it a nicer note than the usual 4 cylinder tractor noises you get from a straight pipe, and I think fitting it in the middle rather than at the back probably helps too.

        I was originally looking for Wolfs but I couldn't find a decent set for a reasonable price. The Boosts were $275 for the set of 5, I couldn't go past them for that price.

          Apparently the timing belt is pretty mission critical on that diesel it’s a must do every 80000 km. That engine should be pretty robust. I nearly bought one but it would fit under my concrete carport (=patio). By about 10 mm! ! Pajero instead …

              Nice rig Dauntless. They are great cars to travel in. take care of the small coolant pipe coming from underneath the header tank. I had a mechanic fit new hoses and other bigger jobs i couldnt do. he got too rough on attaching that hose and he cracked the plastic extension just enough to get me a thousand Kms down the road - out on the Barkly. Luckily it was a cool night and I was cruising along with arm out the window enjoying the freedom we used to have in Australia when I felt a few drops of rain on my arm / hand ... hmmm but none on the windscreen - thats weird...

              Thank the Lord I had my arm out! I pulled over and found the leak soon enough, much to my wallets relief. I patched it up and got into the Isa where a top mechanic helped me properly glue up the header tank and I carefully went on my way south and got home OK. It has never leaked to this day! If I was you I'd strengthen that little extrusion anyway. I was gonna go for an alloy ehader tank but apparently they are meant to fail before the head gasket incase of overheating.

              It was something like that which put an end to my D1... by the time the temp gauge moved she was rooted.

              Thanks for the tips. I check the coolant level every couple of days, but it hasn't moved since I got the vehicle.

              I finally got around to doing some maintenance, including replacing the fuel filter, rocker cover gasket, breather box. I also wound the boost compensator in a bit to improve off boost torque and response.

              Did you do a Z9 conversion for all the filters yet?

              Hi Mate,

              There is a forum called AULRO that is specifically for Land Rovers, and they have a D1 section in there. Plenty of Landy overs which lot's of knowledge..

              Speaking as someone who has a few Land Rovers myself.. Ahem

                  I'm not aware of any diesel engine of a non-interference design, I think it'd be pretty much impossible given the compression ratios required. I've heard that if the belt fails on these engines the pushrods are the weakest link and tend to save the rest of the engine components from damage. A diesel with pushrods and a timing belt is a fairly rare combination, at least in my experience.
