Other than a minor breakage at Tenterfield on the way down, we had a fantastic run to Tamworth and back.
Broke a steering coupling while parking at the motel.
Valuable lesson is that the nolathane coupling is shit. It had melted on the side facing the exhaust, it was only visible from the underside and still looked as-new from the top. The standard item has aluminium wedges that will foul on eachother still allowing you to steer if the rubber fails, the replacement item does not, when it breaks you have no steering at all.
I was able to rectify it by purchasing some conveyor rubber, punching holes in it for the steel sleeves out of the poly bush, had to triple it up for the correct 27mm thickness. It went together nicely and got us home no problems. have already ordered a genuine replacement and will be fitting it as soon as it arrives.
Even the fuel economy was ok, all things considered. Averaged 8.2km/L, 23mpg, 12.1L/100 whatever your language.
Came away with 2nd in class (140/160) in the Judged categories, there were some top notch cars there so to achieve 2nd makes me very happy.
