My 122 is quieter and it's loud.

We may have to do this to my 240... ?
Let's do it.
Super impressive work. What a stance!

updated pictures after latest engine bay cleanup.

Unfortunately I had a camshaft failure. It seems they did not harden it correctly when it was machined. This is the admission of the cam manufacturer themselves. I pulled the top and front off the engine in order to replace the cam.

New cam is a brand new billet in a new custom grind, more aggressive than the previous one, so big bux. It is worth it though, idle is superb and power has definitely increased. As things usually do it got a little out of hand and I ended up repainting the engine bay and powdercoating/painting almost everything in it.

Pretty happy with the way it came out. Good enough to pick up 'Best engine bay' at it's first event :)

Now also sporting an M410 :)

Had to buy an entire 164TE in order to get it but it is in and working and has improved the car out of sight. 3100rpm at 100 was driving me nuts.

Almost ready for Tamworth at Easter
Love it Rob, well done.

Steel toyota box is good too. Similar drop in rpm and increase in mpg. we got 28 mpg on a run.
Incredible car and detail work. Engine bay looks a million bucks.
Fantastic, should be a very enjoyable trip to Tamworth.

Other than a minor breakage at Tenterfield on the way down, we had a fantastic run to Tamworth and back.

Broke a steering coupling while parking at the motel.

Valuable lesson is that the nolathane coupling is shit. It had melted on the side facing the exhaust, it was only visible from the underside and still looked as-new from the top. The standard item has aluminium wedges that will foul on eachother still allowing you to steer if the rubber fails, the replacement item does not, when it breaks you have no steering at all.

I was able to rectify it by purchasing some conveyor rubber, punching holes in it for the steel sleeves out of the poly bush, had to triple it up for the correct 27mm thickness. It went together nicely and got us home no problems. have already ordered a genuine replacement and will be fitting it as soon as it arrives.

Even the fuel economy was ok, all things considered. Averaged 8.2km/L, 23mpg, 12.1L/100 whatever your language.

Came away with 2nd in class (140/160) in the Judged categories, there were some top notch cars there so to achieve 2nd makes me very happy.

Some pics from the trip down and from the display day. (a couple courtesy of @paul0075 :) thanks)

Interestingly I got similar fuel economy in my Auto 4-speed Volvo 164E.

Glad you fixed it okay. Thanks for the update on this, I'm putting a 164 steering box in my 142 and was planning on using that same type of coupling.

Reckon I'll be going OE now.
I'd like to see details on the 140 conversion, especially dealing with the difference in subframe depth.
