Got the valvebody and accumulators out today, Ill likely be going for their "Stage 1.5" Shift kit and having my converter modified for a 3K stall.

One thing I did notice was how shockingly bad the casting quality on the interior of this gearbox was, really shoddy stuff.

Rule #1 of manufacturing, don't waste valuable machining time on bits that don't need it. If it doesn't cause assembly or operating issues then there's nothing to see here.

Picked up the rebuilt tailshaft late last week, the vulcanised section has been removed and all uni joints have been up-rated for higher power output.

Valvebody and converter have also been received back from MV, turnaround was about 2 weeks including shipping and me forgetting to respond to important emails regarding seals and bits I had requested. Overall very happy with the service from Michael, Molly and the team.

Magnets all back in their proper places and a quick cleanup of the silicone the previous assholes had applied to the pan, the rear housing is also siliconed on, Ill deal with this another time.

6 cans of brake cleaner and shes looking almost as good as new. Ive opted for genuine Australian made wanker fittings on the cooler lines as the original steel lines had began to rub quite badly. The braided steel line will make it easy to route the cooler lines to the -6 PWR cooler Ill be mounting up front.

I also picked up 3x bottles of Castrol Transmax Deron 6 as per Michael's recommendation for the fill up, 80 bucks per 4l hurts :'(

Should have it in and running tomorrow ?

I spoke with GJ drivelines about my own project and the guy on the phone, Matt, seemed to be pretty good. Are you happy with the job they did? Also, loving the S90 :)

Edit: Also what are the tweeters/dash speakers you used? Can see they're JL ones but my google-fu was weak.

Ive used them for a few custom jobs and they've been bang on every time.

The speaker kit is the JL C3 6.5 150w package, https://www.ryda.com.au/index.php/jl-audio-c3-650-6-5-150w-component-car-speakers?gclid=Cj0KCQjw9b_4BRCMARIsADMUIyppe7f9RevKp4kCReiV1hiN8jp65qDBKLP-P-o8RzV8nEqZaPf0ufoaAuBIEALw_wcB

Great fit in the tweeter location with some light dremel work, but the doors are tricky to get right. Ill likely have someone modify the cards for me as id like it to look standard and not look shite

Interesting oil leak, Ive know the head gasket on this motor has been leaking for a long time

Bit of scrap aluminium

Got the tail shaft, horrific vibration.

Send the shaft back. The number of tailshaft places that can't balance a two-piece shaft is embarrassing.

Took the shaft back and was told it was pretty far out, got it back and it wasn't much better.

Anyone know any driveshaft builders out there who can actually build and balance a 2 piece that isnt millimeters out of round?

Its going to be tight, but there is room

I'll let you know when I get mine back from the guy that's making mine to see if it's worthwhile. Sucks to hear that you've had troubles with them though, especially since you've used them in the past.

Went a little crazy with the Dynamat

Pulled the carpet out to find that the old windshield had been leaking thus confirming my suspicions.

Rear right door was always the rattliest

Lined all outer skins in Dynamat Xtreme followed up with a 2nd layer of Carbuilders acoustic stage 2 liner on the outer skin.

Finished up with a single layer on the inner door skin before refitting the JL C3 650s

Lined the floor pan also as I was amazed how much vibration comes through while driving, This was the only time having a shitty centre tailshaft has helped find areas of the body that are subject to resonance and excess vibration. The S90 already has an amount of factory applied tar based deadener which has been applied sparingly, I cleaned up all surfaces before adding the new material on top. The added thickness is negliable, the factory carpet sections on this car are almost 20mm thick in some spots.

It was good before, now its even better.

Weight added will be about 25 kg, the roof is next.

More of the same, all buttoned up again now.

Road noise reduction is about 30%, Its almost uncomfortably quiet while sitting at the lights

In the rear I lined the foot wells with Car builders stage 2 acoustic foam to help prevent exhaust noise and heat transmission.

Re clocked the bowden tubes for the seat rails

Waiting on some NOS Sachs gas shocks for the rear to go in this week :D

L like this insulation work, a man after my own heart! Doing this on mu ultimately scrapped v70r was actually cathartic too haha!

I paid a lot of attention to under the windscreen in the tight spot but the glass itself lets a lot of noise through i expect thats sn impossible thing to overcome , perhaps bullet proof? Car is called Tony , gangster name if i ever heard one!

It's the perfect name for the perfect luxo-barge

By comparison ive actually not gone too crazy with deadening, the S90 was already fantastic, but now it's better.

When the T6 goes in Ill have to upsize the exhaust, a lot of these efforts have gone towards maintaining a similar level of NVH when I need replacing the stock cat, resonator and muffler.

It'll never be Rolls Royce levels of serenity, or even that of a reasonably well built suv - the old mans 2018 Subaru Outback is extremely quiet and smooth inside, How the Subaru will be in 20 years I dont know, but right now the S90 is bloody good.

I've got some rods on their way and im hoping to have the bottom end re-assembled in the next few weeks, ready for the current head to be pulled from the B6304 - cleaned up and dropped onto its B6284T block & spinny bits.

For the dumb that dont know the motor designations ( and too lazy to check ) which one is this T6?

And , what turbo is going in or staying N/A?

As always , more pix please! Im living vicariously on others car mods these days , not got the mojo to do it anymore....

    B6284T is the 2.8L T6 motor, commonly found in everybody's favourite 1st gen S80 T6

The turbo ill be going with is a big old Holset HX40, coupled with a nice exhaust housing and I should see spool at about 3,000 rpm which would be terrific with the HD 3K stall converter Ive had built for it

Out with the old bouncy bois, in with the new less bouncy bois

Old shocks amazingly hadnt lost much of their gas as they would still return to their fully extended position after compression, but their dampening ability was noticeably compromised when compressing them against the ground on removal.

Currently looking for some interior bits

    Ghettobird

    Hey all

Im looking for a set - or just whatever good S90/960 door cards I can get to fix up my S90 a bit, Mine is a 97 and has the grey leather interior with brown wood trim,

The vinyl on these shrinks with UVL exposure over time and pulls off the top of the card looking wrinkled and crap.

My drivers side is amazingly the best of the cards with no shrinkage, but id love a full set of good cards.

Happy to pay freight for a good set, let me know what you've got!

They dont have to be perfect, just better than what I have already as I may end up having these professionally recovered.

PFA - Im looking for the newer curvy face lift type like these.

Pet peeve - dampening vs. damping...of course either is acceptable I guess, but I think of dampening as making wet...where as damping as to damp vibration. When talking about cars, you can save yourself a few keystrokes many times by using damping instead of dampening! Is it inertial dampers or inertial dampeners? Star Trek fans? LOL! Good work!
