It's been awhile since my last post so figured Im due for an update, alot has happened and alot is about to happen!! it's a long one so be prepared for my ramblings. don't worry there's pictures
we took the 264 to the boosters meet in early December it was a great day out, the 264 didn't miss a beat, it was bouncy as all hell but other then that it was a pleasure to drive.
I finally decided it was time to pull the wagon motor and replace the rear main seal cause it's been leaking forever and had gotten to the point of it being undriveable how much it was pissing out.
So I pulled the motor, did the rear main and cleaned the motor and all the pcv etc while it was out put it all back together and what do you know it's still pissing oil out ?
This led me to start asking why and the only explanation was excessive crankcase pressure so I decided to do the trusty old glove test.
It failed mireably.
The pcv system is all new and clean, there was no blockages etc anywhere, while the motor was out I checked the drain hose was intact and not blocked.
so... not good.
I decided to go ahead and install my catch can setup I've been meaning to do for awhile. I knew it wasnt going to resolve the issue and further investigation was required but I still wanted to get it done so it was done haha
I pieced together a pretty solid catch can system from bits an pieces off ebay and @ALVO360 was a bloody ledgend (as always) who sent me a vented oil cap and yoshifab block plate.
My catch can setup consists off a baffled 2L catch can off ebay, 10An vent coming from the yoshifab block vent, 10An vent coming from the oil cap and the can drains back into the block thru a 10an hose.
The outlet of the can is 12An and was going to be plumbed back into the pre turbo hose but I didn't have any 12AN fittings on hand so decided to vent to atmosphere for the time being.
it stopped the oil leak completely!!!!!
Now I still need to do a compression and leak down test to see what's going on, obviously she's not happy and I'm getting bad blow by but currently I'm going with ignorance is bliss and I'll drive it till it explodes haha
I decided to also bite the bullet and buy the yoshifab vented oil cap for extra street cred.
I'm not in a financial position atm to be rebuilding motors and I honestly don't really want to right now I just need abit of a break from working on the wagon I'm really excited to get some things done to the 264 and want to focus on that for a little bit before facing the reality of the situation.
the wagon has been driving great, boosting hard as always and not leaking oil, I got to take it for my first decent drive a couple weeks ago to the east coast Volvo community meet, the only annoying part is the catch can venting to atmosphere bloody stinks and smokes out my bonnet after some spirited driving haha
so now moving onto the fun stuff.
I've decided it's time to get the 264 done properly, it's currently sitting on blown shocks and chopped springs, it bounces around, clunks and bangs and all round is shit to drive haha
first thing I did was get a new exhaust, the old one sounded horrible, so I got a 2 1/4" system from the factory headers back it sounds much nicer, eventually I'll get some extractors, I know there's no real power gain but they do sound better so that's enough for me haha.
I bought some Bilstein B6 shocks for the rear
and I got some Gaz adjustable struts with 60mm drop front springs 40mm drop rear springs
I'm about to order poly bushes for the whole car, adjustable panhard, strut brace, chassis braces, adjustable swaybar links and I'll throw a 27mm EL falcon front swaybar in.
I'll also get new strut tops, ball joints, tie rods etc etc etc and maybe some adjustable torque rods
I should have all the parts gathered and ready to go in the next couple weeks then I'll knock it all out.
once all that is done I've also picked up a complete M47 conversion so I'll rip the shitty old 3 speed auto out and put that sweet sweet 5 speed in.
Then it will be time to start getting the overbored 2.5L motor ready with some twin Webber's.
so yeah alot happening, sorry for the super long post I'll try and post more regularly as things progress.
