I just got my first Volvo - '85 240 manual wagon with 260k.
I've done some searching here but still have a few questions.
The OD dash light doesn't work - are there common reasons and any simple fixes for this?
The clock also doesn't work - do I need to pull the dash off to get to it and try and repair it?

Now the can of worms:

Fuel - I was told to use 95. I have several motorbikes and have gone back to using straight "unethanoled" 91 with no change in performance and no pinging. Thoughts?

Injector cleaner: snake oil or worth it? The car hasn't been used much recently and on the drive from western Victoria to Melbourne it seemed fine to me, but it's my first drive in a 230e.

Cheers,

Matt
I think Volvo originally recommended 95. You'll get a bit more power with it. 98 is particularly nice as it also tends to have more detergents (reducing the likelihood of ever needing injector cleaner). With additives, they're not essential, if adding some injector cleaner gives you some peace of mind, do it annually or something.

The OD light probably needs a new bulb. The clock can be removed very easily, you just pop the black rectangular bracket over it off with a small flat screwdriver, then pull the clock out. It's held in by 3 rubber strips, they might slide out with it, just watch you don't lose them.
If your high revving, high compression ratio motorcycle engine is happy on 91 unleaded, so will be your Volvo.
When I got my 940 which hadn't been used much. I got the injectors bench cleaned and ran 95/98 for a few tanks and really noticed the difference.
91 with ethonal is 95 with more oxygen, so a higher compression motor will survive on stock timing. Or if it's been knocked back a bit to compensate already.
