There's a reccesion going on folks, banks are paying less than 2% interest, an old bloke that I spoke to last week that's into classic cars, gave me an education, in these times people are buying gold, future tech shares and classic cars, especially future classic cars..... hence the T5R & Rs values are going up.
I searched Japan & Hong Kong imports, prices here are very cheap compared to them for 850Rs & T5s...
Take the time to Google search
Have a look at the prices here, then convert to Aus$ plus import & compliance, rego etc
You used to be able to pick Holden vl's for peanuts...now a complete car is over 20k...series 7 rx7 10 years ago 25k now minimum 60k....might have to look at another car if you can't stretch your budget...
Also your probably looking at a pool of maybe 100 850r sedan and wagons, manual and auto, nation wide...
How many 850Rs & T5R's came to Australia, anyone know.
A clean 240 is bringing good money now and is a very good car

Iv read on this forum 80 wagons.. A total guess would be 150 sedans, being more popular?
Of 850rs that is...
There is an official Volvo worldwide list somewhere, can't remember where though ?

I moved on to various V70s , T and T5 , one exceptional S70T5 that was SO fast even my Volvo shop mechanic commented yet i sold it for a wagon....
A V70R i was rescuing with a big effort ended up scrapped and the V70R i had that ran had been badly treated i gave up and sold it. Moved on to V60T6 which is so much fun id never go back.
The AWD P80 would be the only way to go even the P80 Cross Country , make it what you want with other parts and mods.
When i was looking for my manual R wagon , the 855R , i fpund that list , less than 80 had been imported

actually to clarify, happy to look at increasing the budget especially with the current times.
Forgot i had some ballpark amount in my original post.

I nearly bought a Swift !
Most fun ive had was a gutless and rusty AlfaSud! Exeptional handling and brakes in need of power, i considered putting a 12A Mazda in it....
Renault 12 epic fun in wet .
855R a pain in the arse in wet......
Just out of curiosity big Ed, youv had this thread going a couple years. In the last 12 months iv seen several decent 850r and 855r pop up for sale. What's stopped you from jumping on them?
had a rough calculation last night , 5k to buy my 855R and roughly 11k spend so far and on going . Will be worth it as still enjoying the car ..

my work circumstances gave me a car so didn't have room for another vehicle. Changing jobs so theres room for a fun car i guess..... hence the delayed/prolonged buy
but yeah back then think i was unrealistic with the price.... well more wasn't sure what the value of the cars were...
Just like stevo, my rough calcs for my 1996 855R
2800 car sight unseen
900 Transport to nsw
4879 total spent at Fcp euro in 2 yrs
400 manual swap from wreck
Approx 800 misc wrecking yards
That got it to a stage 0 and nsw registered car.
All work done by me so zero in labor.
I absolutely love my manual 850R, but it is a lot of work.
How man hours you reckon youv put in roughly and pay yourself 120 an hour
