actually to clarify, happy to look at increasing the budget especially with the current times.

I moved on to various V70s , T and T5 , one exceptional S70T5 that was SO fast even my Volvo shop mechanic commented yet i sold it for a wagon....

A V70R i was rescuing with a big effort ended up scrapped and the V70R i had that ran had been badly treated i gave up and sold it. Moved on to V60T6 which is so much fun id never go back.

The AWD P80 would be the only way to go even the P80 Cross Country , make it what you want with other parts and mods.

You guys gonna kill me.... The most fun iv had in a car is my turbo swift gti... 270hp atw, 800 kilo car...

    I nearly bought a Swift !

Most fun ive had was a gutless and rusty AlfaSud! Exeptional handling and brakes in need of power, i considered putting a 12A Mazda in it....

Renault 12 epic fun in wet .

855R a pain in the arse in wet......

Just out of curiosity big Ed, youv had this thread going a couple years. In the last 12 months iv seen several decent 850r and 855r pop up for sale. What's stopped you from jumping on them?

had a rough calculation last night , 5k to buy my 855R and roughly 11k spend so far and on going . Will be worth it as still enjoying the car ..

my work circumstances gave me a car so didn't have room for another vehicle. Changing jobs so theres room for a fun car i guess..... hence the delayed/prolonged buy

but yeah back then think i was unrealistic with the price.... well more wasn't sure what the value of the cars were...

Just like stevo, my rough calcs for my 1996 855R

    2800 car sight unseen

    900 Transport to nsw

4879 total spent at Fcp euro in 2 yrs

    400 manual swap from wreck

    Approx 800 misc wrecking yards

That got it to a stage 0 and nsw registered car.

All work done by me so zero in labor.

I absolutely love my manual 850R, but it is a lot of work.

How man hours you reckon youv put in roughly and pay yourself 120 an hour

How man hours you reckon youv put in roughly and pay yourself 120 an hour

Hahah sooooo many hours. Engine in and out, subframe in and out, most parts in the entire car needed some work.

Bought car jan 2017, constantly worked on until regod in July 2020.

Hours spent researching online are massive too.

      It's all worth it tho.

I'm not even going to go down the cost route ?

As long as the wife don't know the costs than you are all good.

So moral of the story... Buy the next one you find. There's 3 ppl on gummy with wanted ads... Or buy a cheap 850 and spend what the balance would be for an r on engine and gearbox and not be scared to park next to people in car parks...

Buy the next one you see, prices only going up and cheaper here.

Cancel life insurance as soon as your wife finds out you bought one, you'll know why when you see her face.

Insure it straight away and make a to do list up.

Once a month fix something on it, keep it to yourself.

If your ever in doubt why you paid what you did, Google search prices overseas, it'll make you ☺

True eggo, if you want a R, it takes awhile for them to pop up, but jump on it.

Like I said I never even seen my car until it got dropped off in my driveway, but I wanted a black R wagon, so when one came up I bought it, condition was almost irrelevant, it not like there was alot to choose from.

Have you driven an 850r yet Ed?

Yeah 2x both auto not wagon. Also drove a v70r auto which I thought to be not as fun.

        BigEd

My 855R was a manual , new clutch , it was a pain in the knee in city and twisty roads the 5sp box is shite ratio wise , the M66 from later car is better bet , actually all the auto V70/S70 turbos i had were more fun to drive than the manual , you bump the line pressure in the auto up and it shifts quick and hard and has better ratios for a FWD turbo car. The V70R needed a massive boost in power to be more fun but the fact it didnt spin the front wheels all the time was brilliant! A better rear end setup on the AWD too.

IF i was getting a P80 again it would have to be AWD and auto and use a later RN block engine at 2.4lt as the diff btw the 2,3 and even its 2.4 big brother ( so called LPT with a higher comp ratio and 100ccs more ) is a better motor for driveability. So build one up out of a good solid 850....

The m59 at 110km/h sits at 3k...not nice on the highway it's just on boost
