Hoping to make around 500hp when its done

Specs on the build? I'm shooting for a similar target. My build is 2.5L, 16valve, Holset HE351 turbo with custom intake and exhaust manifolds. Be cool to have the bragging rights of the most powerful redblock in Australia but we will see...

I think in Aus, it might be cheaper to get a Falcon GT3582R and throw a smaller turbine housing on it than getting a HE351. Since I am working in Hong Kong at the moment, I am seeing a lot of cheap China Holset (~$500-650 AUD), and I am tempted to get one and see are they even legit Holsets.
He 351 is only $500 here. An. Fg xr6t gt turbo is more than that. And the rear housing flow is better suited than a Garrett without buying another one, the larger size works fine on an 8v in the real world so with more flow on the 16v it shouldn't need to be smaller.

The 740 with 16v is the 2.3 that came from shak.

16v, 2.3L, GTX3071r gen2 (on the small side, but will spool quick), high mount cast iron manifold, custom intake manifold, will run on e85, fed with a walbro pump, 5 speed bmw box, currently has a 550 elite wired in but will look to upgrade that to a 1000 (can't pass on the extra features) Engine is built from head to toe, would be a 1000 word post if i listed everything done to it.

Turbo set up might change in the future, i want to get it finished off test it out, see how it performs and make adjustments if needed.

Yeh its the 16v that's been lurking around for a while

Seeing as this has been dug from the grave. Any updates on this? Who ended up making a 500hp redblock?

I'll be happy if mine makes 400.

The Swedes make crazy high power from redblocks.... but for drag racing. AFAIK the 500 BHP has been well passed by them.

Then again, the engine only has to work hard for 30 seconds in that application.

In 85-86, the Eggenberger and RAS Group A 240 turbos made about 360-or-so BHP with their B21E K-Jet engines with homologated parts on the AvGas of the period. Even so, a mid-race turbocharger change was factored in for the Spa 24 Hour races.

As we know, proper race engines are built with power in mind, not longevity or comfort. So clearances, etc, are way off factory spec, because the next scheduled teardown / inspection / rebuild is after the race.

300 BHP should be had reliably from an 8V; anything more? Of course, but IMHO, unreliably.

I hope to have my 16V B230 in the 142 up and running (finally! The budget is there!!) before the end of the year. I'll be very happy to get 350 BHP from it; I believe it will be capable of more, but I want to spend my time in it, not under it.

GingerNinja I'm hoping for those kind of numbers. Engine is done and running but not tuned yet. Have a few other things to finish off on the car first but life keeps getting in the way.

Should be another 1,000hp Volvo in South Australia this year…. But with a Volvo engine, sequential gearbox and AWD.
