Hello
I've been trying to navigate around this forum to try and start some kinda thread about my ole stead . Think I'm in the right place at last . Bought it nor in perth and it only go's out at the weekends. So been upgrading some worn parts since ownership. Rip kit ipd then do88 intake silicon but had to stop there as the hoses are perished for the catch tank so waiting on those to turn up . Now it has the usual knocking sound so also ordered upper spring mounts ets so also waiting on these . So ... long weekend um ali intercooler and ali radiator and hoses are on the way as well now lol . Damn cars it never stops . While off the road took the front bumper off as , well , it had a few battles through its life but all is well now ..

Not the right color but looks a damn sight better
Oh the original color is dark gray pearl with 172 k on the clock automatic
@rado hi, yep you're in the right place :)
So the pcv kit arrived this week so hopefully will fit that today and get it running again .

Also

And front and rear abs sensors and the circuit board and more stuff......

The body isn't that great but not worried atm . I'm set on getting the mechanics side of it right atm ....

One concern of mine is the smell inside. From day one of ownership it honks inside . Ive left all windows open washed it etc but it comes back so may have to strip the seats and carpet out and give them a damn good cleaning ...
The sound barrier stuff under carpets can absorb all the good smelly stuff, it may be toast... Maybe find another wrecked 850 and see if it's got good underlays.
Steam clean the carpet once seats are out, easy removal but they are heavy af!
    Could be headlining too...
    Does it smell like death?
I'm not sure what death smells like but must be close to this ... I'll be onto this soon hopefully as it's doing my head in .

Well done the pcv today not too hard apart from the 2 bolts under the manifold . Especially on an auto with the extra pipes in way . My arms are scratched to hell . So tomorrow's task is to refit the rip and the new intake pipe so hopefully a damn site easier than today....

While down that way replaced the temp sender . Few weeks bavk changed the standard valve for another standard valve . Pointless going for an aftermarket one being an auto . As you can see well worth doing the pcv , yep caked in grime
    ...
Worth changing these as when the old one was in my hand done the test on it and did not hold air at all
Crud from hole into crankcase removed?
Did you lose your socket down the guts?
You ain't lernin unless you lose a couple....

Do the auto DIY upgrade to the valve pins, James has a long I think?
Stick an MBC on it, boost that baby!
A big cheap ebay intercooler is good upgrade too, nice whoosh sounds as well.

Yep removed all grim from holes for sure .
Valve pins pins , what is that not heard or read that . Will have to look it up . Same as bmc.
Ali intercooler and ali rad should be here next week .
So , just been talking about the smell in the car and her reply it smells like something is decaying so mmmm sounds like the death smell . Least i know what i have to do now so thanks snoopy for the tip .

    Burn it out...

Well its all back together and running again but with quite a leak coming from (hopefully ) the intake pipe . Do88 say to cut a section out when connecting to the turbo . As i didn't do that , that'll be my fisrt post of call . So hopefully should be pretty easy. ......
    Carefully, small cuts...
    A K&N? Mm..

On the death smell... My old project v70r 98 had very, very nasty things in back seat area, I threw out all the door cards, I pressure washed the seats.. The. DAMN. Smell was, still there.
    Ripped everything, bare metal inside.
Started sealing with tar and dynamat, double floor dampening board things from another car, carpet steamed from other car. I got my old 855R seats in it, still lots of work needed.
    It.
    Still.
    Smelled...
Only a little and only on hot days..

They say an ozone machine from a hire joint is best bet for odour.

Car got scrapped anyway, I couldn't face doing the mechanical side and we were in rush to move, too much crap so off it goes..

Probably a smelly K Mart toaster now..
Yep a k&n pannel filter , always gone with one on all cars , nice as not overly keen on loosing the oem
    Ok so

With said destructions it says about the little cut out to do . I can get the tube on and off freely with no problems. So off again and back on place the clamp 5mm away from the end and all is good . Very minor leak so maybe wait for it to all cool down again and tighten all clamps inthat area . I did find that a bolt needed tightening a bit more on the valve so it may have been that .....

All is good and now what I'm hearing is the air hitting the pipe post turbo with more force on tick over and on a 5k drive it all seems pretty good. Not much untill just under 3ooo rpm but hey it is an auto .

On the smell case , think my first post of call will be to sort the air con out as that is a bit nasty and change the pollon filter . I here wurth do a good cleaning spray as well .
    Maybe the evaporator is mouldy/manky?
