Made a start on installing the electric steer pump, but unfortunately I ordered the wrong size banjo fitting so didn’t get it finished.

I will order the right banjo next week hopefully and have it finished.

Anxious to hear how the Astra power steering pump works out. Will it run continuously or be switchable? Some sort of control system? This would be ideal for our electric 240. I've always wondered whether the Volvo Penta marine trim pumps would work as they often show up when I search for Volvo bits on eBay. Astra one is probably better as it's made for automotive. Good work!

Ideally you'd pwm it with a speed input but I'm pretty sure the astra ecu handles most of that. I know of a bloke who ran one in a corolla at a constant pressure then switching off over 80, but he lost the car coming out of a bend when all steering assist went as he tipped over the 80 mark, so that's probably an excercise in what not to do.
Mine runs a constant pressure but I pwm the pressure solenoid in the toyota rack using a soarer power steering ecu that takes a road speed input provided by a megasquirt output. The soarer module produces a pwm signal that the rack solenoid likes, and can be adjusted for feel with a potentiometer.

The pump draws quite a few amps @Raebird , make sure the alt/wiring/fusing is up to the challenge!

How about this for an idea. Instead of using the exciter signal, you could get yourself a suitable amperage relay and have it triggered by the fuel pump relay output. That relay only stays in the closed position while the engine is rotating and opens when rotation stops.

The exciter doesnt really carry much current and is only there to get the alternator to provide a charge at low rpms. I just wonder how reliable it will be at triggering your relay.

That was the other route I was thinking of taking and is probably more reliable.

In my 245 build I used that output to trigger a relay for the fuel pump in the tank. The original wiring for the tank pump is only very small, something like 18ga, so I ran a line to the tank from a second relay thats triggered by the fuel pump relay. It primes the pump as it should and only runs when the motor is spinning. Seems reliable in the few tests ive given it.

Haven’t been able to do too much to this of late, waiting for parts to turn up. I did tidy a few things up though, good 2nd hand front corner lenses.

Good 2nd hand side indicators.

Also had a bit of fun labeling the rocket switches I have for various accessories I have or will fit.

Skid will be for a line lock for doing burnouts at the track.
Cool will be for a thermo fan over ride.
Time will be to advance the timing 3deg, apparently you can ground 2 wires from the ecu to make this happen.

You want this version, from an early astra, TS I think the model is.
Can’t comment on removal sorry, this one was already removed by the seller.

Got a 740 turbo fan shroud finally from @vo940 and mounted up my e-fan from my S70, still to wire it all up but it is in there for now.

Also grabbed a 740 turbo oil cooler while I was at @vo940 ‘s place, it is also mounted up but I need to order hose & fittings to plumb it up.

If you can fill in the gaps around the fan and oil cooler, recreate the shroud, the core will like you more with better air flow.

Got the electric power steer pump up and running today, tried to get video but can’t really hear it over the engine running.
Ended up using the wiring for the under car fuel pump to run it as I have upgraded the intank pump and will not be running the under car pump anyway, worked out pretty good that way as it doesn’t start pumping until the engine is running.
Gotta get a few more bits and pieces to finish up the e-fan, but that’s the next job.

I hope you only ran those wires as a signal for the relay that is battery powered, as the little Volvo fuel pump relay can't particularly handle much load
