With good tyres. I find lockers not very aggressive, they just click clack around slow corners. But with no grip tyres they drag the tyres together.

August 2018 update: been doing all my service things lately, almost complete. Done timing belt, camshaft seal, intermediate shaft seal, crankshaft seal, new tensioner, new water pump and a general clean up.

Was my first time doing a timing belt solo and FCPs belt make sure it’s super easy, there are marks on the belt that correspond with the TDC teeth on each gear. Not sure if this is on the black “non race” belts though

$300 for a cheap used bucket seat in Forster. (Forster is a really nice place)

Also @jamesinc painted me up a real nice valve cover for a real decent fee.

Almost too nice to put on my dirty redblock.

Lots of things in the works too, suspension, diff, engine stuff maybe who knows

Also gonna try my hand at welding for the first time. Bought a stick/mig/lift tig machine, might do a night course or something.

Yes the stock belts that are more than 1/4 of the cost also have the marks. There is actually no need for the kevlar belt outside of a racing car fwiw, especially with a stock redline etc.

I think it is impact strength so quick, heavy, rpm changes are absorbed better

Update! Finally...

Lots of parts in the shed waiting to go on, not a lot of time to install them :(

Bought a EL falcon sway bar, but not a stock one. This is Whitelines thicker version! (30mm) For the front of the 240

Seems to fit, just need some advice with the D shackles as they are to skinny to fit the bushes that come with the bar. :/

(Looking for a 23mm rear bar, hit me up)

Got Gaz front coilovers + adjustable mounts from @AshDVS (cheers) and installed them with new wheel bearings, LCA ball joints and brake lines. I chose a 400lbs spring, which Ash thought was reasonable keeping my daily/weekend drift car plans in mind.

(It’s a bit too low in that picture, scrapes on stuff easily)

Need to mess with the dampening adjustment to get a feel that doesn’t bounce you up and down.

Also going to get some suspension arm spacers soon to help with the bump steer/undesireable position of the lowered vehicle.

Think I’m gonna go with an E-locker for the differential, something switch mounted that can be turned on and off (I’m not about that weldy life sry)
Thoughts?

Bought basically all the base manual conversion parts (new clutch, pressure plate, flywheel bolts) now just need to pull apart the parts car to see how everything goes together.

Also bought an early front end from @pigdog, still need to source the fenders and bumper and all that to make it fit my 91. (Hit me up if you got em ;) )

Some more parts for future updates have also arrived but we will see when I get time to put them on.

E Locker will be interesting to see in a Volvo application. I was quoted 1600 for the unit alone last time I enquired about them. Will be very interested to see if it works and if it works well.

I quite like the quick steer ones like Kaplhenke sells. Swapping between my 2 cars, one with, one without, the one with quick steer is a bit easier to skid. A bit more steering lock and easier to turn the wheel.

Got some new shiny boys

DVS adjustable sway bar end links

Used IPDs sway bar D shackles + bushings to mount the 30mm bar.

SUPER STIFF
With the stiff springs and the sway bar, bluey corners super well! Thicker tyres also helps. Bit of neg camber helped the new wheels fit also. Playing around with the dampening settings currently to find a good balance.

Note: end link sits on an angle currently. With Kaphlenke spacer this should be fixed.

Note: Also can’t fit the sump guard because if the sway bars position. May be fixed with Kaphlenke spacer.

Update!

Installed some adjustable rear suspension!!

Also got this DVS adjustable panhard rod, fits nice and works well.

Thanks @AshDVS for the quick postage and advice on setup.

So these are 300lb/5kg rear springs on adjustable perches to change ride height. According to Ash this should compliment the 400lb/7kg front spring for a track/street ride and i agree so far. The shocks are also dual adjustable (bump and rebound). Not much of a price difference between the single and dual adjustable Gaz shocks so why not amiright?

After (Max low on spring perches, tyre touching fender so could probably get lower)

This is definitely not an “all road conditions” setup, the front seems too stiff (swaybar?) as the understeer in the wet is horrendous, compared to dry where the thicker tyres keep understeer in check. Need some more tinkering.

Also installed this Kahplenke bucket seat bracket, really nice quality and fits perfectly. Raw finish isn’t my jam so might paint in future.

Also have Kahplenke suspension spacer with Ackerman adjustments coming but has not arrived yet.

February 2020 update

Finished the round light conversion today!

It’s pretty rough, the bonnet especially

And the plenum/cowl doesn’t match the bonnet

But I love it!

Wired up all the lights today so she’s legal

Also did 242s not have a side marker? Is that legal?

Needs some new indicator lenses which will be next on the list, full orange maybe? Found a few online but they are pricey!

Will get all the panels painted or wrapped or something eventually but I’m loving the ratty look for now ?

I think the original poster has confused terms - we got side repeater (indicator) lights in Australia in the later years...not sure when or if it became a legal requirement here. The USA got side marker lights on some cars where the parking lights were not available from the side (ie. 1800s front and rear, 140s all rear, 240s in the rear until they changed to the wrap-around tail lamps - never in the front on 240s as they always met the vision criteria).

242s didn't have side markers on the front, all 1989+ Volvos in Australia had them standard on the front guards.

I bought clear aftermarket front indicator lenes from Ipd, the quality is pretty good and fit well.
