You should be using engine braking on a slow downhill convoy of cars....pastry;127404 wroteyup it's had new Bendix fluid as recommended by PB, inc. a flush.
It's feels good for normal driving, they just got very f*%$ing hot going downhill under fairly constant braking (in a slow/unpredictable convoy of cars)
The calipers seem pretty meaty even on the 316mm's, but yeah – looks like 336's are the way to go!
Pastry's suspiciously cheap XC90 2.5T

oof, cheap shot but you're right, i was in lazy auto. And usually i'm the only guy not braking to enter (or drive through) the M5 tunnel!
Yeah use that geartronic and engine brake. Haven't experienced any brake fade.
Cheers for the feedback on the shocks. I'll keep saving for the ipd sways.

Yep. Definitely keep the speed down and lock it into a lower gear. Even if you fall behind. Though lots of drivers aren't consistent which is annoying.
Great thread! Noticed your shed looks like it has a painted floor...what product did you use and would you recommend it? Sorry a bit off topic!
No worries – I did some research and chose Nutech Pavecoat. I had a local guy do it (wanted about $700 for the job, including the etching AND the paint – couldn't say no!)
So far it's been good, hard wearing, cleans up well. I wouldn't be surprised if it needed another coat in 5 years. But yeah, I'd happily recommend it.
The colour is "Coral" – matched well to all the sandstone around us.

I changed over the rear stabiliser links today, and also the bump stops while I was there.
Don't reckon it will have made a massive difference, but optimistically it feels a touch less crashy.
Next up - considering buying a set of used 18's with half-decent tyres on them. I like the idea of a small upgrade for about the same cost as a set of new (cheap-ish) tyres.

Wow what an epic thread... @pastry did you find out what caused the wheezy start? I'm having similar issue with mine too. I've done some voltage drop test and can confirm some losses so going to clean up some terminals...
@alliao I didn't, but I've not been using it much. When I have, I haven't had a problem of late.
I realised one issue may be the key switch, it's failing to fully click back and disengage the starter – but if I start it carefully, no issue.

I contacted Penrith Volvo re: a full CANBUS software reload. Should be going in next week to finally sort the scrambled AC system, but they said they weren't sure they would be able to update any other software since the car is "so old". Hah! Ouch!
I'm hoping to get the replacement wheels and have an alignment done at the same time.

meh, one of the tyres has a split in the sidewall and leaks. It's in for repair or replace, wait and see.
Tyre was done for. They only had LauFenn's in 235/60/18 so that's now what I've got - x1 odd new tyre. Seem to get OK reviews, but I hate having an odd pair.
I guess I'll have to stick it at the back.
Had them balanced, so I'll put them on today and update.

Never heard of that brand.. :s
Jax sell them. Apparently a Hankook offshoot.
It's looking good
Does it feel better on the road with lower profile tyres?
Your XC is continuously improving.. mine seems to be going downhill.
I like how straight your bonnet is.. so jealous!

hard to say if it's the tyre profile or just that they hold air properly and have some grip.. but yeah, i'd say this big rig comes back to flat a touch more quickly when I perform a moose dodge.
These wheels suit it really well, chuffed with my upgrade. Hoping to get $100 back for the Neptune's!
And yeah, it is a bit of an improvement from the rattling, orange peel filled, coca-cola soaked, blown-engined heap of suspiciously cheap shit it was almost a year ago..!
But it did at least have working AC then..
Yours will come good again Al, chin up fella! Enjoy the 911 for a bit!!

Might have to replace my starter.
Because my XC90's original starter had a spade connector for one of the starter terminals, and the S60 had ring, I used the XC starter so I didn't have to bother with changing the connector.
Either it's on the way out, or oddly incompatible.
