I had a set of front springs sent with my Saab kit. Hopefully this sorts the front suspension once and for all.. nothing fancy, just Lesjofor cheapos
Lots of squeaking from the front end of late - pretty sure I under-lubed the poly subframe bush inserts...yowch...
pastry;129734 wroteMight have to replace my starter.
no more noises lately. Very odd. Might've been corrosion?

How's the gearbox Pastry?

No problems at all. The beast actually feels pretty quick at times! I might change trans fluid again in a month or two.
I still have the old 'box if anything goes badly wrong in the future.
A recent snap of the old thing
Rogue242gt
That really is the best colour for an xc90.
Ex850R
Have you investigated a tune at all?
Am driving an 04 T5 90 this weekend, well, the missus is seeing if she likes the size of it really...
Its, slow....
Has a 16t on it and boogies a little up higher in rev range but the weight dulls the T5 for sure.
MTE do tunes.
I am considering though, the cost of tune, intercooler and other performance upgrade parts, get a D5 instead what with its high torque but its problems with clogging up... What to do..
Ohh, I learn that ipd have sway bars, did you mention that already?
If I get this we can all get an order going, ask a bloke to shop them for us...
pastry
No i've not bothered, tuning these is too pricey for my liking – spoiled by Saab where the community home brewed a tuning suite.. iPD tunes are what, 800 USD +? Ouch!
Yes it's quite slow, but I think unless you go for the V8 you really need to just accept it ;) I don't find it too bad, for the size. It's a fairly nice cruising vehicle. I find it likes revs so if you let it change its own gears it goes off the boil very quickly with any kind of incline, which annoys me. I use the manual shift a bit more now.
However, I think if you're quite used to driving a poky buzzbox it wouldn't be so different, really. I've driven a few hire cars that would lose all momentum uphill.
The Xc90 with 2..T just doesn't compare to the Saab for effortless mid-range, so I notice it.
I drove a neighbours D5 once, but honestly can't really remember much about it. Im sure it'd be a better engine for the sheer mass of the XC, though. I just don't like diesel as a fuel.
The T5 is not quite the same as the 2.5T, is it? Or are you interchanging?
It could do with the sway bar, and probably the solid strut tower mounts – lots of flex and noticeably long settle time when you steer quickly side to side. It still steers pretty well though to be honest. I've experience very bad understeer just once taking a corner too quickly, and it would not correct (Edit: should mention tyres were crappy, + prior to springs being changed)
That said, I still like driving it. It's a great vehicle and handles kid and dog hauling perfectly, which is all I really need to ask of it.

2.5T is the best. But only in blue, beige interior with a sunroof.
I don't find mine slow on highways which is where most of my driving is. Flies up hill and overtakes with ease. I out drag new ford rangers all the time. They hate it. We usually opt for the kia sportage zipping around town though.. It does feel big and heavy in a city.
I'm getting mine ready for some snow adventures this winter.. perfect volvo for it.
Ex850R
Yeah, I can see those attributes now with a bit of a play this morning, manual shifts and too, I quite like how the auto is working now for me.
Certainly not the beige with sunroof attributes!

I think it will be just too big for her around town.
It's looking like the S80 v8 AWD, damn.... That'll be hard to take...
There's two available, maybe I'll twist her arm, her business needs a car for me too....

I like diesel as a fuel for multiple reasons, the fuel economy from one of them is far better to start with. And the effortless torque against the petrol is good too.

new springs are in and have seriously tightened up the front end. Bonus: CD does not skip (much) any more!
That just leaves the entire rear to sort out.

What can you do about the swirl flaps that fail? Can DPF be deleted?
A tune for the 2.5t needs a downpipe and even cat back done so a big cost really and puts more strain on gearbox.

I have my favourite ozzy osbourne cd stuck in mine. Wont eject. :-(

Tragic! Hope it still plays? When you pull out the stereo for your fancy touch unit you'll be able to rip it apart.
I've never really been exposed to Ozzy – but I love Shot in the Dark. How "Ozzy" is that track? I'm going to have a YouTube session to remedy this..
I'm very fond of Brummies so I'm willing to give the old guy a chance :) I also love that he used to look and dress quite a lot like The Ultimate Warrior.
bigal
I'll have to see if it plays. Maybe it was an option back in 2004 - FM radio with an Ozzy Osbourne CD player. Only plays the one album.
OzVolvo (get it?)..
jb1986
How much did the springs set you back, if you don't mind me asking? Actually... maybe we should never mention how much we pour in to these things.. lol
I've always considered getting a tune for ye old schoolbus since I put the billet 16t in it. Just havn't had the cash laying around ... there have always been other things that actually need fixing first instead of dropping such a large amount on one of those "nice to have" things.
Apparently the ECU can be unlocked but involves taking it out (special tool), soldering in a switch so you can switch it between read/write mode, and having the correct cable. Then let's not go in to getting the correct definition files etc.
Ex850R
The Celtic tunes are probably priced same as Hilton or MTE off Mark at VP Tuning.
To put a third of the xc90 T5 buying price into the car may be mad but if it goes way better and by one peep I know, it does, then it's worth it but I feel the D5 will fulfill my needs better, with modifications and tune too!
I believe you may mean the older ecu, the 4.4 from basically p80 chassis not the ME9 in the later vehicles? I could be wrong, frequent occurance!

Ozzy Osbourne CD played this morning. Then I hit the eject button and out it popped.

haha, it's a sign!
Still, one less feature for your "for sale" info..

Blower Motor Resistor .. least enjoyable job I've done on this yet. But now the AC ought to work again, once I've gassed 'er up.
Just in time for summer!
pastry
Had the AC re-gassed today.
Apparently there was an issue getting the compressor to switch on, something to do with the relay not getting a ground signal.
I scanned with Torque app (since I don't have a Vida/Dice unit) – got 5 codes in there as it turns out..
bugger me that's sideways.
All seems to be to do with pressure sensors and clutch relays. I'm going to clear them now and see what I get..
