BTW, I went to drop some oils off at the dump, the XC90 weighed in at 2220 kg with me driving and my eldest in the back.
And at east half a tank of petrol I'd guess as kerb weight is supposed to be 1950kg
pastry
Yeah thankfully i'm not making up the 200kg on my own. Fair point.

gavinh;124843 wroteVery nice, is it still a financially viable exercise out of interest? I do like those xc90. There a D4 with a sensor fault forsale locally here for around the 2.5k mark, which would have been nice if I didn't have to many cars as it is
Sorry it's off topic, but this car was sold yesterday, the guy fitted a new feel filter and solar far he said it's running great
pastry
All good, it's relevant to suspiciously cheap XC90 discussion!
Just changed the fuel filter? Lucky bugger!

I have the
Haldex unit from the 09 S60, which I think is a newer Haldex model. I don't think these are interchangeable.. but.. maybe? Anyone have a clue? At a guess, it'd need newer software.
One other win from the S60 – the
engine skid plate / splash guard seems to fit the XC90 perfectly.

Love this thread!

2046kg is the kerb weight (for the 2.5T)
Had mine up to 3tonne a few weeks ago. Heavy old 60s vintage trailer loaded up and family along for the ride. Heaviest I've had er at the tip.

I appreciate the nivomats with the heavy load.. they work very well. Never ditching those things unless it's another set of nivos.
pastry
tempted to buy the MY14 currently at auction – one reason would be to simply pull the rear subframe for the newer bits, Nivomats included..
i think it'll go for more than I can afford though. Shame, as the more I think about it, the more parts I think it'd be nice to have.. (everything from newer carpets & headliner, to r-spec shocks and brakes...). Nice, but not essential..
We'll see tomorrow! Mrs Pastry would surely love another heap out front?

Clarify with Pickles what the fees would be for that specific car. I dont trust those lovely human beings very much. Would this car qualify for prestige vehicle fee along with the internet bid fee structure?
pastry
well balls, I stepped out at Lot 796, by time I came back it was up to Lot 813.. it was 806!
Don't even have a clue what it went for – by the looks of other similar-ish sales, bidding probably started over my maximum anyway ;)
Rogue242gt
Don’t sweat it. You’ll see another opportunity soon. There are plenty of cars in the market
pastry
yep, no drama – just funny, wanted to see what it'd fetch at least.
Bilstein B4 front struts arrived today. Might get that done over the weekend.
Vee_Que
An xc90 t8 went for $5000 so you'd be suprised.
pastry
Front strut swap went fine, feels so much more refined up front.. just highlighting how bad the rear is.
I've done nothing back there yet, though I've got links and a couple of bushing to get in. Looks like more effort than the front!
I just have to trace down a little clunk in the front pass side which only shows under very quick / sudden suspension travel. It's probably just the stabiliser link needs a wiggle and tighten. Haven't found the 5 mins to take wheel off and put it back in the air yet.
Otherwise a huge improvement!
Still need some tyres. They squeal around roundabouts... Considering buying some wheels with tyres on them, instead of just new tyres.

Update on the salvage MY14 XC90 I had my eye on – it came up again, and bidding finished at $2500.
I think it might not sell again at that. Whatever – that's waaay too much for me to spend on a new centre console! :dizzy:

Are the bilstein b4's hard or a give a good balance between comfort and handling? Do they stop the severe boaty floatiness?
pastry
@bigal i've done a fair bit of driving with them now, they're weighted much more to comfort than handling.
That said they feel really good after the dead struts :) but it's still a boat. Bear in mind I still have the old springs, and I still need to refresh the rear end, but it seems people in the 2nd row get flung about a lot if I wiggle the steering wheel or steer slightly too quickly.
My older kid (3) likes it if I do that classic Dad "wobble" steering in the Saab, but complains about her head whacking against the car seat bolsters in the XC.
Those sway bars you're always banging on about have started to look more like a need, not a want!

Another note, I took it down the long, steep, windy pass to Mirramurra (near Kiama) the other day loaded with 4 adults and 2 kids in car seats.
Brake fade was very, very pronounced! I've never experienced anything quite so bad.
I used Akebono pads all round which have a great rep, but didn't replace discs yet. Is there any merit at all in slotted (front) discs on these? Or should I accept I might need R-spec front brakes (and fewer passengers)?

336 or 324mm upgrade over the tiny brakes u have now will fix some things

V8 callipers and discs yes. I'm assuming you've used good dot 4 brake fluid?
pastry
yup it's had new Bendix fluid as recommended by PB, inc. a flush.
It's feels good for normal driving, they just got very f*%$ing hot going downhill under fairly constant braking (in a slow/unpredictable convoy of cars)
The calipers seem pretty meaty even on the 316mm's, but yeah – looks like 336's are the way to go!
