I have sold 2x 245Ls in the last 6 months but none at present, I do have a 265GL 1977 that would make a good project, or a 240 1986 Hearse with coffin for the right $$$$ feel free to call 0434 897144
140 series, or 242, 245 manual. Pre 1979. Or the Grail...a 245L.

Random calculation ( @jackafrica )
If a mature guy (say 40 years old) bought a new Volvo in 1973 then he would be 84 years old now. It's still possible your one owner perfect minter 142 or 145 is out there. However if the owner bought when he was more mature at the age of 50 then you're chances are low.. probably will be a barn-find exactly like mine.. car sat in a family's yard after the owner couldn't drive anymore or passed away.
Good luck! If you hold out too long you might miss out altogether even on a ratty one. I think deep down though we are getting excited for you and just want to see another one picked up for our entertainment.

There'd be plenty who bought around 30. I mean look at old mate Ted in the NSW club, he bought his 122S in his 20s?

I thought Volvos back then were mature architect or engineer type gentleman cars.. or is that SAAB?
Certainly mainly mature owners as they were seen as conservative and were not cheap (comparable with upscale local cars).
The challenge with the one owner cars is in fact their originality - meaning paint and body condition is a reflection of 40 plus years of a normal, non-cossetted, life.
I was thinking about this the other day - when I started driving in the late 70s, buying a vehicle of the equivalent age to a late 140/early 240 nowadays back then would have meant a pre-WWII car. That put the age and condition issues into perspective for me.

Thanks Mark, a pleasure to speak with you this morning and for you to offer to advise me of anything suiting or close to fitting the criteria expressed in previous posts.iceton1975;100109 wroteI have sold 2x 245Ls in the last 6 months but none at present, I do have a 265GL 1977 that would make a good project, or a 240 1986 Hearse with coffin for the right $$$$ feel free to call 0434 897144
An original car doesn't need to be with its original owner. Documents, receipts, etc are often passed down, these are precious ephemera to me, clutter to others.bigal;100128 wroteRandom calculation ( @jackafrica )

It could be sitting in a yard or a shed, well used and nearly forgotten by whomever is the current carer or a friend, waiting to be nursed into life once more. Shared with the community, to be hidden no more.
Romantic notions to be sure, though notions can have their roots in truth.
Band aid is the same. Can trace every prior owner all the way to 1981, every service receipt is there along with most of the old rego papers.

@jackafrica The dream volvo turned up yet? (not 'dream' as in you're dreaming). I believe there is one out there for you.

@bigal, yet to view one going, drivable, never mind registered, car.
Not that what I buy has to do all those things in an instant, but really, honest original examples haven't reached my view.
Travelled 500 odd ks up to the Deep North yesterday and looked at 4. Had a great ride and the weather; perfect.
Haven't seen a good 242, 245DL wagon or 145 wagon, they're now on the endangered list :/
Time and a little good fortune, the year is young yet....

There has to be at least 1 x 145 turn up somewhere. In 2015 I recall 2 unknown ones turn up (mine and the blue 74 one in bendigo that is now MIA). In 2016 there was the white one which has been picked up by a member here.
There were however known ones pop up also (like the ex tassie one).
Where are you mysterious 145's. Perhaps they're extinct?!

Interesting. It's an auto, my preference is for manual. No, I'd be unlikely to change it from original specification.
Thanks for the heads up.

Huge thanks to @AshDVS for his assistance looking at a car in Geelong.
Ash peeked under a cover, took some pics and gave me a quick rundown.
Wasn't anything like seller described. Run Forrest run.
Similar thanks and appreciation to@iceton1975 for his keeping his eyes open and ear to the ground. We've had a couple of speaks, the right car to preserve isn't easy, when it needs to be a driver and either registered or under a permit.

A few false starts, inaccurate descriptions, ambitious asks above realistic values, etc.
Most offerings have been non running projects, or requiring at least $2k input to be worthy of running on a permit.
Lots of 242GTs out there, only one original. That one is a possible.
Every day brings me closer, the model search widens. Included the 120 series now, just in case there's an affordable running 2 door or 5 door wagon.
I'm grateful to a few folk out there for their help.

Yes, on the list. Actually very desirable to me.egads;103166 wrotehttps://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/wangaratta/cars-vans-utes/1975-volvo-other-coupe/1143205064
242dl?
BUT, it's a project too, and had been advised it was quite rusty.
Pity about the rear left quarter damage. Looks to be plenty rusty under the tail lamps.
Thanks for thinking of me, it is very much appreciated.

An old thread but just to close the loop I did buy the 142s, have it freighted (back) to VIC and its now with Voldat for a good going over - I'll take over when the hard stuff is done :)jackafrica;99899 wrote I've passed on markc88s 142, logistics from Perth to Hobart not for me.
You're up next. Let us know how you fare.
Mark's adecentseriously good fella and he has plenty of good pics of the car.
A refurb-lite thread to follow, along with a few wanted ads for bits and pieces
