Yes, my 164 was a 71.

Tried to ring a few times this morning, no answer. I'm off to work now, arvo shifts for rest of week. Will try and call later if I get a chance. I figure the questions I need to ask are, does it have books/history/ accident damage and if I could get sent more photo's, particularly of rust (50 cent size) as quoted in the advert. Anything else you guys can think of?

Hey and while my brain is going berserk with thoughts about what I should buy, as a collectible classic, I'm still thinking about the 242GT in Sydney for $1200, I know its got 500k but it seems to me that coupes are more 'desireable' or 'classic' that the sedans? They never have for me because I've got 4 kids, so a coupe has always been impracticable, that's why I'm all for Wagons.
One year my wife made us go on Holiday in her Honda Accord, what a nightmare, no room and cramped for space constantly, less luggage too. She even agreed that the XC70 was our only option when travelling on long trips, despite the extra cost of fuel (albeit small).

If it had coolant in it the past ten years it could be ok, if it was full of water then I'd be weary. way I would do the head gaskets and thermostat and water pump.

Couldn't get onto the owner of orange 144. Will try again tomorrow.
Had the opportunity today to chat with the owner of a mint green 73 144, he had bought it new in Malaysia and imported it. It had 400k on the clock but was immaculate (still had the plastic on the doors!). Of course he did not entertain the idea of selling it :-( I told him about ozvolvo however I think he's not the IT type.

Lol, 124 is a Fiat, and a bad one at that! $3000 seems a bit rich?

Don't bother, it's been sold...

Yes, but an offer of $1k wouldn't hurt...

I am starting to realise that the Volvo community is an especially close knit group. I am new to this forum, but it is interesting to see the same eyes scouring the coast for these classic Volvos. Beema41 are you based in Canberra? If I am not mistaken the 142s in QLD has actually been up on Gumtree for almost a year? I actually emailed him just recently to see if he still had it and his response was "not for long... a gentleman from Canberra is keen to come up and get it!"
My search continues for the right 142 (or maybe 144). I hope to be successful soon because the search has been going on and off for almost two years from the US to Australia!
beema41
Ben, yes I'm in Canberra but I'm not sure if the car is Queensland is the one I've been considering, it's a 144s not a 142s (is that a typo), on Gumtree, red in colour. If that is the car I didn't know it had been on there for that long! what is wrong with it?
Crabolsky140
Yes I meant 144s. It's the red one as listed earlier in the thread. I am not sure anything is wrong with it other than the fact it's over priced. If you look at the listing date it's been up there since Jan 2013. I always thought it I was sold and mistakenly left up there.
Having said that though I sounds like it's very clean.
beema41
Yep, I've been conversing the seller however he's been unable to send me any photo's of the actual car. I believe the photo listed isn't the car and one that looks like it? I suspected as such when I saw snow in the background. Anyway, the seller is an ex Qld Volvo Club member, as are I, and he assures me it's a good thing. I'm trying to arrange an independent inspection by a Volvo expert but work has got in the way. I just wish he'd send some photo's to reassure me.

So, I've got a bit of a rant this morning. The White 82 Wagon listed on Gumtree, it's a manual and it was $100. I inspected it, as Dunlop is a suburb of Canberra. I told the seller, yep I'll take and I had arranged for a trailer and had intended to go tomorrow for the handover. I get a message from him this morning, apparently someone from Sydney arrived last night, paid his wife the $100 and took the car. She apparently thought they were me? Anyway that's another one that got away. So over the past fortnight, I've missed the 79 Wagon (I made the offer but I believe the seller has sold the engine), The orange 144s in Vic, the green 264GL in Tamworth and now this.
Maybe the 1980 Saab with 145k in Adelaide is a better bet?
Ex850R
LT has a Saab in Sydney for sale. I think the old guy with the green car in the snow is , just an old guy! I emailed him ages ago about his panels and got similar responses , may be worth it but then again they do come up so may be good to wait?

@Volvodriverman Princess... How would you feel?

Egads' 144 could be sold with my motor (which is currently fitted to it).
That wouldn't be a big project then.
