164 brakes are the first upgrade. From there its a case of how much do you want to spend and why do you want to slow down faster?

Here's some frustrating information (yes eBay it maybe just the silly person inputs g the information.)
All 3 have different rotor sizes. (Yes first image is the rear. Though larger rear rotor?)

Yes, in conjunction with RX-7 calipers and the DVS adaptor brackets.
Not as a direct 164E rotor replacement.

And yes: 140/160 rear rotors are larger diameter than the fronts.

164E vented front rotors have a different offset than 164/140 solid front rotors - this is due to the different caliper design.
I think the assumption that the rotor offset is somehow compensating for the hub, is where the "different hub" myth comes from. The rotor offset is actually compensating for the different caliper.

Does the DVS RX7 upgrade for the 240 use the 240 rotor? If it does, one would think that it should fit the 164e rotor of the 142, with minor mods?

@ashdvs this is the perfect time for you to chime in if you can.

@spac so the ideal easily achievable brake upgrade, would be
740 rotors (ebc, and brembo still make/offer slotted versions)
Rx7 caliper with dvs adaptor
On the 140/160 hubs.

This opens up a huge range of pads. And Will be available for a long time to come given the rx7 racing status.

Yes. But bear in mind that this is all based on my recollection of something I briefly investigated maybe 8 years ago.
Maybe some time searching TB will spit up the photos and brief blurb I wrote at the time.

XC60 328mm brakes on a 140 series would be amusing

The XC60 328mm brakes use a sliding caliper though, so the large rotor and pad surface area are where the advantage would be (I'd rather a decent multi-piston caliper) - but... that's not going to fit under a 15" wheel. :(
P2 S60R/V70R calipers are becoming a good option now as they're becoming cheaper.

The Sumitomo RX7 caliper is very light for what it is, lots of pad availability too.

Apologies for the late arrival!
They're correct, the conversion uses the 740T rotor.
Volvo genuine p/n: 1359908

While it does fit some 15" wheels, there are quite a few genuine Volvo wheels that it will not fit under.

As a side note, we can arrange custom made ADR-approved braided brake lines too, so if you need something odd made up, I'm happy to help.

I cannot think of any, but I don't have much actual experience pre-240.

@VolvoHordz has a pile of 164 at his place... I might go grab the set of DVS adapters and RX7 bits and 740T rotors I have sitting around and see if it bolts up or not

I'll see if I cant get something done in the next 3 days

Ah the non jumbo rotor I hate, the 940 jumbob is smaller but 24mm thick. Less warping

I've literally had them glowing red and have never had an issue with them.
Of course, that was on a 240 and I did use very good rotors.

A thicker rotor would be nice but isn't going to work with the RX7 caliper - instead, it makes more sense to select a suitable pad for your application and use a decent quality rotor.

Keep in mind too that the non-jumbo caliper isn't fantastic either, so probably wouldnt help if you've experienced shuddering issues previously.
