Brake upgrade 140

164 brakes are the first upgrade. From there its a case of how much do you want to spend and why do you want to slow down faster?

I've done the swap on my 68 wheel studs on 164 hub are a little longer but once that's done its a simple bolt on

The more I read the more information is either conflicting or like the pic above blows it out.

Apparently only ATE calipers were used with solid rotors, where as the girling was only used with vented in the 200 platform

Ah, but we're talking pre-240 platforms - so, 140s either came with ATE or Girling calipers, with non-vented rotors.

164s with vented rotors came with ATE front calipers.

I'm more thinking about the dvs adaptors though. Will they still work with the early stuff?

Of these three,, the 164 disc is the one to have. What is interesting to note is how there's a difference with the bell total height (A) between the 3 rotors, and how the two 240 discs have different thicknesses.

RDA7021 appears to be their version of the 164 disc, but RDA doesn't want anybody except dealers looking at their catalog to see what they do make, or don't make any more.

Jay, WRT the 164E conversion, stop listening to "internet wisdom" (ie: BS from people who are regurgitating stuff from other people who are regurgitating BS that they've read).

There's at least three people in this thread saying "I've fitted 164E brakes to my 140 and I didn't need to swap hubs".
Nobody has said "I tried it but it didn't work because..." - despite their good intentions, they're repeating incorrect information...

The DVS/RX-7 240 conversion onto a 140/160 thing, I've been very clear that I don't KNOW that it will work - but my basic investigation says it's a possible avenue to look into.

I think this thread has evolved well past fitting 164 calipers to 140 now (for me at least.)
What we do know is that 240 calipers fit 164 calipers on a 140.

Which would suggest that with the assistance of the dvs rx7 adaptor it should work.
Rx7 caliper on 164 rotor mounted to a 140 or even 160 that's the cost effective high performance kit.

We'd need to work out what needs to be made up for the brake line. Up to you whether you want to mock them up on the car first and work it out from there, otherwise if you know already, let me know and I'll get it organised.
I can get some made up with a 'Kawasaki Green' sheath if that floats your boat. :)

Can someone actually measure the 164e vented rotors. Looking at some dimensions of

RDA rotors show the hat height(A) as 74 mm, not 63 as bgps post above. Now from what I understand there is only 1 type of vented brakes in the 164. Now could just be a fuck up on the listing but am buying some so want to buy the right ones.thx in advance.

@ashdvs I wouldn't bother with colored. Clear coated braided Will suit. Oh did someone say chrome the calipers... oh ok, if you insist.

Clear or 'carbon' look really good. Or we can do black sheath too.

Is it RDA rotors showing this? Or the westernfarmers Ebay ad? That Ebay listing doesn't specify any part number for the rotors he's selling... and I get suspicious when he's listed 140 and 164 rotors for 1968-75 being the same, when they're not. Do you have access to the RDA catalog?

Meanwhile, I'll get out the venereal calipers and measure the discs I have that were taken from a 164E - it's the only way to work out if the farm boy or the Brembo is telling porkies.

The Ebay ad is correct - the height (dimension A) of the 164E rotors is 74 mm .
