Love it and love your last for weird headlights! I frankensteined v70 headlight bucket with Lexus es300 dual projectors. Maybe they are an option for this...

Its a 3 wire sensor... just splice it in and its fine
I've never bought the right product part # because the generic genuine Bosch sensor is $50aud and it does just splice in :-)

Clif notes... the volvo wiring harness is stupid long... so cut off the plug from the new senor right by the plug and cut off the wiring from the old sensor right by the wiring

He doesn't have the old sensor. I'd reckon you'd have one spare in your fleet.

well that half saves my arse now here's the next problem ...i haven't got the old 02 sensor when i got the car its wires were all split and snapped so i just binned it thinking ill just buy another one haha i should just know by now to never throw anything ever.... hoard everything!!!

when it comes to splicing them in which wires go to which? the new one has 2 white and a black

white wires are white wires, just make sure the streams don't cross and all is good!
(aka either white wire from the harness can connect to either white wire on the O2 sensor, just hook both up separately!)

Ok people some more progress and some more issues of course ...

the m46 conversion is completed and the motor and trans is back in the car, i had an issue with the gearbox flange being the wrong size but i sourced an output flange the correct size from berrys motor group so i thought ok its done time to turn the key and get this party started well the car had other ideas ..

it will not start , it cranks and pops but will not start i have been thru everything....
timing is all on point, flywheel is in the correct position, it has fuel and spark all leads are in the right order , ive got a brand new crank angle sensor and tried the old one as well just in case the new one was a dud but she doesn't want to cooperate at this point im out of ideas .
everyone ive spoken to says timing but timing has been checked 1 billion times and its all good
the next consensus is its 180 out and im on the wrong stroke that is about all that's left i have been thru everything else i dont completely understand the 180 out but i get the jist of it ....

Any ideas that may not have been thought of? its probably something super simple that ive overlooked ..

funny thing is another volvo guy i know (hes on here but unsure of username) is having the exact same issue with his 240 after dropping an m46 in so we have managed to fuck the same thing up .

By 180° out they mean you have set up the ignition leads and firing order of 1-3-4-2 on the exhaust stroke of number 1 piston not compression stroke so it is sparking at the wrong time. Check the timing mark on the balancer lines up with the timing cover and point the rotor button to number 1 ignition lead at the front of the engine. The distributor turns clockwise

I read up a lot on it last night and its definetly not 180 out everything lines up perfect where it should , I spoke to the guy that drilled my flywheel and we are thinking the crank angle sensor may need to be spaced forward a couple mm to line up with the holes properly its really the only thing left that it could be .

By saying that, you are effectively saying that you have no spark. But earlier on you said you have spark

hmm i definitely have spark i was only going off what i was told but now that seems like that might be an issue ....
im completely lost hey my skill and knowledge level is way under this shit , everything has been checked multiple times and its odd that the other bloke is having the exact same issue the only thing that we have both done that it could be is having the flat flywheel drilled

Have you checked for codes from the LH 2.4 system? If it comes back 1-1-1, at least then you know the electronics are all tickety-boo and it's not the EFI.

yes ive checked for codes and all is clear i get a amm code but ive always had that and it still ran fine i did a full check everything came back clear

EDIT: never mind, saw the answer on Facebook.

(Problem was the RPM sensor bracket needed to be trimmed 3mm, so that the sensor 'saw' the marks on the flywheel)

was just coming on here to update it ... yeah we had to shave the crank sensor bracket back just under 3mm think it worked out to be 2.7mm any further the sensor would hit the flywheel teeth it fired straight up and has been running since no problems ...
I do have a bad MAF and need to source a new one it runs abit rough on idle once its above 1500rpm its perfect and doesn't miss a beat , took it for a quick test around the block and she got up and moved its a massive difference from how it was Auto im starting to get excited its not far off now just need to do little things , put trims back on , fix brake lights and a general tidy up and double check everything then im done ..... well done for rego ive still got a lot more i want to do to the old girl

The 240 passed blueslip!!!!!!
its been a long time coming but she will be on the road by tomorrow morning .
felt great actually driving it in for the bluey it was the first real drive ive ever done in this car , it has abit of a flat spot low rpm and splutters abit under 2000rpm not sure what that's all about yet but ill investigate it this week going to pull the throttle body off and give it a good clean out and go from there ..
also need to work out the overdrive wiring now so i can get 5th i didn't bother trying to get it working before rego cause i couldn't really take it out to test if it was working but i can now ... it isnt too horrible on the hwy in 4th 100ks sits around 3 grand so its not screaming at me but i do a lot of hwy runs so need to get that 5th gear working sooner rather then later ..

thanks to everyone that has helped with parts and info its made life a lot easier still a long way off where i want the car but we are getting there!!!
just in time to make the pie run up to Fitzroy falls this wknd too looking forward to taking the old girl up the mountain and seeing some other volvos
