  • 240 - Shitbox Rally 2017 edition

Works great for me, I did a similar thing on the the 360 when knocking the pin out of the gear selector so I could drop the torque tube (read transmission or tail shaft from motor to rear mounted gearbox). I only need a 10mm drill though and a bit of gaffa tape to plug the hole.

Today is a good day!!

I have finally solved the alternator charging issue. I'm making 14.2v.
It was all down to insufficient belt tension (I like to wear my pants low, cause I need the room).

I've now installed a banging stereo - with the remote switch wired up to the rear de-mister. I've repurposed the car alarm to an annoying siren, rigged up to the antenna down rocker switch.

Oh, and welded on a new section of exhaust.

Now at the end strait of fund raising also! Only $1200 to raise out of $4000.

I have a starter lying around send me your address .

Respray and decorate!
Doing a big parts cleanup so should find the spare raising plates I have for the rear which you can have. Will let you know
Can I have the old tyres if they're good?
(Love your car by the way.)

We did the SBR last year in an unmodified 84 Nissan 300c. It was a blast. It seems that getting them through with out fancy tyres, suspension etc is much more fun. The vibe of the vent is fantastic and its more about dressing your car up than modifying it to be a rally car. My 2bobs worth. Good luck with your fundraising and the event.
Thanks @dock!
I'm having a blast doing all this stuff and playing with mods.
OzVolvo community has been awesome, and egging me on to do rad stuff.

I did mysterybox last year in an AU fairmont with my dad. Completely unmodified. The car survived well. I know what I'm getting myself into. I'm looking to improve on my last experience (which was 10/10).
Raised $3000 out of $4000 now.
Motoring along
SBR is fantastic and a great fundraiser. Get your drinking shoes on. We couldn't do it in 2017 but hopefully back in 2018
How much is the registration and other costs that go to the organiser?

I did support crew for the wife when she did the Scrapheap Adventure ride on her $1000 Yamaha XT600, and the registration cost for that was $100.

Their team raised over $6000 between the 4 of them, and the whole ride has raised $97,000 out of their $100,000 charity.

One of the things I've found interesting is the difference in costs for the different events - something like the Variety bash is $2k registration fee, and they still only aim to raise $100k.

Registered on ACT Historic Registration - the refund from the remaining full rego paid for 12 months!
I've got a click clickity click click noise coming from rear right wheel...??

Bearing?

Doesn't make that noise under braking.

Ideas/advice?

Hello All - has been way too long.

The car has been going really well. I have completed 2 major installation laps. I have driven from Canberra to Batemans's Bay - conquering the Clyde Pass. And have also completed the dirt road drive - I drove to Mount Franklin within the confines of the ACT twice. - picture below shows the mess after (uggh cant upload pics from work)

I have now finally resolved all electrical issues. I have installed a voltage meter to keep an eye on things also.

FUNDRAISING IS DONE!!! thanks to all who helped out along the way.
I'm making OZVOLVO decals, and decals for the businesses that sponsored the car.

I have a roof basket now also.

Now - for the news - not all of you guys are going to like this, and I accept that... I have stripped the car of all paint. This is afterall the Shitbox Rally. My plan is to use the Budget Street Cred technique used by Mightcarmods. Mechanically and in the interior - the car will remain at A1, but the body is undergoing a transformation. Watch this space...
