Fear nothing! Just gotta throw yourself into it, read forums, follow procedures and get them hands dirty. It's very satisfying.. Save money, learn some new skills, help and inspire others on places such as this.
Philia_Bear
I keep posting good safe ones
Chris
If you are willing to go a bit older in years but similar mileage to the one you nearly bought and also forget R Design there are many out there way way cheaper, that way if something breaks you will still be ahead financially.

Which earliest one would have the reverse camera and sensors?
Ex850R
Whichever one you get , all that stuff is retrofit or get any old one wired in.
bumperplates
Got you! So I'm basically looking for a low 60-70,000km 2010-2011?
bumperplates
I'm finding a lot of petrol ones with that mileage, but from what I have read through this post, the petrol ones are very very very bad :)
Ex850R
I think the T5 was good but not enough oomph?? Look back at the posts , aand , what did @Philia_Bear put up here?
Ex850R
I mean , you can soon sort out the oomph with a tune and an exhaust but fuel use with the heft may be the issue.
Actually , i kinda like the idea of a souped up 90! On airbags , low , twin 4" exhausts , supercharged....weeeee.

Hahahahahahhhhh

My T5 feels a tad heavy around the city yes. Not terrible at all but not zippy. It's 2 tonne! Has plenty of go on the highway. The 5 sounds great. 72 litre tank.. Can do 650kms 75%highway and 25%city.

That's great! When I looked err glanced at the Kluger, it was around 12-15litres per 100km's
bigal
I like the new Klugers! I've had a few toyotas and they were good to me. Few mum's have them now dropping their kids of to school I notice. The xc90 is a bit more unique (here in launceston anyways).
Vee_Que
Klugers are a dime a dozen alongside prados in Melbourne. when they are a jumped up camry or an unsafe ute with 5 doors on the prados case. An xc90 will be safer for all occupants.
Steer clear of the 6s still. The 5s should be good, but frequent oil changes are a must
bumperplates
Thanks for advice! You mean the T5's? I heard a scary story about a transmission requiring major work which cost up to $8,000 in the XC 90. How often would this sort of severe issue occur? Is it mainly from occurring by owner not taking care of car properly?
bigal
Plenty of them with high kms also. Frequent ATF changes of the right spec (jws3309) are my plan to avoid issues. If its busts I'll try and get a good used transmission while I have a crack at sorting the original. The aisin box in these xc90 t5's don't have the neutral stop-start feature like the pre 03 xc70's which was a major killer of these units.
Beware of the PCV issues on the T5. Mine is blocked.. Pull the dipstick and check for smoke, also stick a latex glove over the oil filler hole and see if there's a slight vaccum.. Mine blows straight up lol (not good). Looks like i'm for an 8 hour diy operation replacing my breathing system.

The t5 ended in 06 i think.
I would like to drive the yamaha v8 one day! Probably not a good idea as i'll then want to upgrade.
bumperplates
There are some great cars there!! Would you go for one with smaller tyres cheaper replacement of tyres?
If I can get one cheap enough, then I'll have a repair fund already setup in case something happens.
Bigal, how much you think those repairs may cost you all up?
If my plan is the have this car for 10-20 years, then what do you recommend I buy? I would average around 10-15,000km per year.
pauljloz
10 years = 1 car
20 years = 2 cars
