Yes all vehicle Manufacturers can extend their warranty past their initial warranty period. Obviously any extension is subject to their strict conditions!

I think that sounds much better!!

I'm at 83,000 odd thousand now, so I would do roughly 15,000km a year, so I would see myself at 158,000 by the 5 year end.

Does something BIG usually happen to the XC90 up until this point, or do I drive like I have no worries, with my cap on. :)

If it's not extended manufactures warranty don't bother , keep the $2800 in your pocket

Between services do extra oil changes & do a transmission flush before 100,000 (even though they say sealed for life) she should be good for 250,000km so drive it like it's yours.

Awesome!!!! I'll let you know what I find out from Volvo about the extended warranty, and let you know what the report says!

If this bothers you then you have a cooling off period on that contract. (Unless they got you to sign a waiver but that may not stand up.)
Inspection "could" be finding a "problem" too I spose.

Not sure where you live but for $39K you can pick up same car with 40,000 - 60,000 klms in Victoria so make sure the one your purchasing is mint condition & push for a discount, if you don't ask you don't get ;-)

Definately! I know I may have slightly paid more, so I'm going to ask them to fix everything in the inspection report. Otherwise, I hope that I can take my cooling off period. Is it 3 business days after the signing or does it include that day as well.

I did have in the contract being a condition "Subject to Independant Inspection" and "Subject to Test Drive". I'm hoping that the wording can't be used against me, as my plan is to have everything major resolved that's found in the inspection report. Otherwise, I'll let them know that I don't wan to proceed with the purchase.

One thing I wanted to ask though is what is one of the conditions goes beyond the cooling off period?

I think your wording stating the contract is subject to a independent inspection & Road test being satisfactory will give you a get out clause if the Dealership is unwilling to rectify any issues found, it will also give the Dealership a get out too. I also believe that if a condition of contract has not been met within the time frame there is no contract & any deposit paid it is to be return in full.

The only thing I could see wrong with the car was one small dent on the drivers side, and the passenger side, a few scratches on the back of the roof, and one dent on the bonnet near the badge

The interior's leather was a by worn, but outside of that everything seemed good

I haven't seen any pics & I know Volvos leather seats don't hold up very well to frequent use but from what you've described this XC90 has had heavy unrespected family use. With the few all round dents & scratches on the roof you have also mentioned I don't think this car warrants the above average price tag that the Dealership is asking either!!!

They get treated like shit by lots of peeps.

If the blokes here think it $10,000 over budget then you are better off buying for what would equate to $15.000 or $20,000 les from the auction.

"getting them to fix it " is fraught with bodgy repair jobs and a never ending run around to get it right and your time and money spent that isnt part of the repair deal.... TIME is precious.

Any such work needed on an auction vehicle is done at your repairer to your standards so you get a win win situation then. And the satisfaction too.

Please look at your contract as it tells you what the cooling off period is , they should have mentioned it as a legallity iirc. Another thing to look at. Even then , getting technical with the additions to the contract and repairs , it may be just too messy....

I still think an auction is a very bad idea. As a mechanic who actually deals with this stuff at times, the xc90 gearbox can fail and will cost a lot to replace and the extended warranty will cover that, but it does have stringent conditions. See if you can find a cheaper one. Preferably from the country, less stop start work

If there are any fellow ozvolvo members that could assist bumperplates in making the right purchase saving him $10,000 - $20,000 I'm sure he or she will buy you a big drink ;-)

I did mention asking Mark as he seems to know where all the cars are in this country.
