Put cruise on and hop in the back.

This is why this forum is so awesome!..
Thanks for the info Bear.
First service i was expecting to take it to volvo in Melb anyway (bend over please sir) and get the BIG once over and updates.
Hit a major road block last night though....... The Wife, we all know they are a very rational people. But no interstate cars is the mandate  i cant justify the logic? anyway, i suppose ill move back to the drawing board and just keep wishing one turns up in the driveway

This sounds like what I experienced as well :)
The bear may still be thirsty though!! :)

I found its easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission, but I know her limits. I.e talk up the car but buy the interstate flight ticket first before tell revealing its location

Maybe pay for a nice hotel somewhere and surprise her after you've signed everything :)
You may be in he dog house if all doesn't go to plan for some time though :)

There is always the moods so what's the difference if you buy a car she WILL like anyway? Just do it. What's she gonna do? Divorce you? Nah , it's all bluster and control freak shit. Life goes on. It ain't the end if the World.

I hear ya Snoopy. I've at least got the call on the car. And have now worked hard to sell the v8 angle!! Budget is pretty set though..... And as it's a second car the budget is lower than some!!!
There's been a few that have come and gone in the past few months, but they are thin on the ground in my neck of the woods...
Moojie
Righto, so I finally got to test drive a V8 with the wife today, and it's out of the equation. (Over the top and unnessaceray)
So I'm 100% on the 2011+ R-Design, but petrol v diesel? (This old chestnut)
Pro's & Con's

V8 vs D5....
Moojie
So don't even consider the petrol?
I'm leaning towards the D5, but just so many more patrols avaliable in a spec I'm after
Philia_Bear
Do not touch the 3.2 or t6, d5 or v8 only
Anyways the v8 gets same fuel economy as the other engines
Moojie
Thanks again. D5 R-Design it is then.
There's the hard part done. (I think I'm at the same point now as I was 3 months ago) at least I'm ready to buy now.
Philia_Bear
R design means no spare under the car as a down side
Stupid nice looming exhaust
kyril
The twin exhaust does look nice but yeah you lose the spare. I've never had to change a tyre in the 24 years on the road but what do reckon my luck would be if I got an R design? The day I drove it home I would get a flat!!!
At least I've got the go ahead from the other half to get the v8!!!! Small victories but hard fought none the less! :)
kyril
Oh and to say the V8 is over top and unnecessary?? Well that's just plain wrong. Never has a v8 been unnecessary!!
The best I've driven recently was a Tekno enhanced VF HSV R8 to Bathurst 2 years ago. Although I think the best thing about that car was that it had a fuel card for the trip!!! :)
Agouti
That narrow Yamaha V8 sounds bloody mint though. If I had that with some low end turbo spool I think I would need to sit quietly for a while before I got out of the car every trip... Hhnng

Noble m600 much?
pauljloz
Take the v8 badge of it before you look at another one ....
Philia_Bear
I think its the v8 price which is more of the issue over the v8 itself
Boye that the d5 has lag and a lot of it
But moves dam nice once its moving

I had the opposite happen to me! The wife loved the sound and the power! She is originally from Sydney so it must be crazy gene they all have on the road :)
I could also see the hint in her eye that she was willing to trade me in for the V8 as well :)
