@Spac in regards to the engine mounts
Is that the rear one near diff in the centre ? you are talking about.
What did you use to fill it with? Just a sikaflex style stuff? Mine is going.
I have the latter model with the fluid filled front mount. that was pricey to change.
Spac
Nick, I did all of them. Did the top two, then re-installed them and did the bottom two.
I used Sikaflex that I bought from the local hardware shop. Cost about $27/tube (so probably $12 from anywhere else...).
Probably wouldn't work on fluid filled mounts, but there's no shortage of crook rubber mounts out there.

It just occurred to me talking about these keys, I don't actually have a fob.
That's just some cheap nasty re-programmed after-market radio trigger right? Doesn't work either way.
So there is no electronics in the key itself, I could just go get it cut? or is there actually a chip hidden in that slowly dissolving carcase of a key that is actually talking to the S40 via the ignition / door barrel?
bowie
Actually just occurred to me, posting photographs of keys on the internet is probably not the coolest idea. 3D printers would make easy toast of that.. dam.

For some reason Older Australian Volvo have a non factory system. My 850r had one and all 850s I have seen. Possible this also happened on the early S40s.
I got a Volvo fob and receiver unit from over seas. Works great.
bowie
Well successful day shopping. And ah! the auto locking, boot unlock fob was an "accessory" on the 1999 T4. I'm unsure if I have the circuitry for that accessory to work, won't bother with a fancy Fob.
The Volvo dealer had a spare key in stock $120 bananas (Doh!) and after I have it cut, there will be about $400~ in service costs to have it programmed into the ignition. (more Doh!) Still, I've never lost a key before but what's the chance I would now I become a tight arse at this moment.
Volvparts didn't have a cabin nor petrol filter in stock, which is good as they tell me some S40's didn't have a cabin filter? WTF, and there are two types of petrol filters, So I best check that.
Lastly some fresh plugs and Penrite HPR10 should be a good start. I have no idea when the leads were replaced, (if ever) and after 190k I'll sort that out once I'm back down at Volvparts for the other filters.
I'm going to have them sort the roof lining out too. For what it's worthy they reckon $250 will see it done. Happy it if is as fiddly as it seems.
Also good news! They had the correct coloured ash tray in stock. Lad before me cut a hole in it for the boost gauge, the then changed his mind and mounted it on the right hand speaker tray. I'll fit that and the interior won't feel so crummy!
Ah :)

Also, on the way back from the volvo dealership I came behind a later model S60 T4 also turning right.
"MY BROTHER!" I think to myself sitting behind him noticing his wide tyres and tinted windows. On comes our arrow and he hesitates, moves off cautiously, ah he's looking for the traction control button before he blasts on up the hill in front of us.
I ready for myself, I'm already in second gear expecting a chase but he is still moving cautiously. He gets around the bend and is now sitting in the middle of two lanes driving 15km under the speed limit. Perhaps something is wrong with his chariot and I'll be able to come to his rescue with my forum searching powers!
Cars behind now start looking for ways around us as he is still struggling with the speed limit. Suddenly, an arrow appears and he darts into the right hand lane causing the car behind to stomp on the brakes to avoid an altercation. Not finished, he changes his mind and decides the left indeed was where he wanted to be and just as suddenly, blinker and movement happen as one.
I get a glimpse of the white bowls hat, I give up hopes of a like minded boy racer and concede that some folks really are just fkn volvo drivers.

WTF Previous Owner!!!!!
In refitting the cigarette lighter he cut away to mount the boost gauge, I was greeted by a 12v live and an earth, not terminated or insulated, plenty of strands sticking out just floating around the compartment. :S
Bloody Hell!
Fixed :S

Lol, surprise electricity for everyone!
bowie
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaah I have rego!
I did make the mistake of buying slimline plate protectors, the bumper and boot is slightly curved so these are no good. Anyone want them? $40 worth whoop whoop.
Also, I bought the wrong air filter. Volvparts gave me one about 1/2" to long? There are two style of air-filters for the S40?? :S It's the same width, fits the channels of the air box but just to long? :S Don't temped with a pod from supercheap..
It's got dirt on it from when I tried to fit it, I can't imagine Volvparts will want it back. Its a DEUTTSCH part C3594, Your's if you can use it.
Also Also, lowered springs make it hard to change the oil. I've went and been super lazy and bought some ramps. Geeees.
Maybe next weekend, with fresh oil, plugs filters and air in the tyres I can open it up now it has licences plates and I'm a little less scared from being shot by Victorian police for being a twat.
In closing. I drove the thing for a fortnight to and from work on a permit without plates, Not pulled over once. He.
egads (she/her)
Do you have a 240 filter kicking around? By accident found they fit when I made the same mistake.
bowie
Serious, a 240? well that's good to know. But no :P
Cheers however.
nickm
Most "sport" Volvos have trouble with ramps. Bunnings and a couple of bits of wood.
Vee_Que
Blocks of wood and then jack it up. Why didn't you buy parts through berrys?
bowie
Volvparts had a wooden cigarette cover thing I wanted. So whilst there.. ;)
bowie
the LolVol had it's first real duty today.
There was a Brass Band Event at Bendigo today and the LolVol was to get me the 200km's from Melbourne.. Or would it..
Nah it was totally fine in the end :P
Warming it up carefully around the roads before I got to the freeway I was getting excited. It was 6:00am, 4 degrees outside, no cars around for the Sunday. Perfect conditions to take advantage of the pending on-ramp.
I reach for the traction control, curiously the button is worn, I can tell it has been pressed many times before, I turn the radio off, point around the on ramp, change down to second and bury my foot.
It raises quickly to 3k rpm and then nothing... I reach for the cabin lights so I can see what's happening on the speaker mounted boos gauge and what. 0 PSI. Ah faaaark :(
I pull over, turn the flash light on my phone on and peer hopelessly at the lines to and from the turbo / intercooler / boost tap / anything else I can get my hands on. Everything is attached firmly, I can't make out any splits and the only hose I cant get to is of course the bottom intercooler pipe. Wanna place bets on that hose being the one that has come off.
Gees it's a dog without boost. I could hardly accelerate past 130km/h and driving up hills.. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeees.
Anyway. Day off tomorrow, Fix it I will.
it is common for these things to blow off hoses?
