Amy hasn't done much the last few months but I have been driving it fairly regularly so I decided to get into it a bit and see how everything is going, and re-check a few things.
I took the carb apart, adjusted the float level which was a bit low, cleaned it all thoroughly, found a small boost leak between the carb and plenum which is now fixed. I also adjusted the throttle stop as my configuration is a bit weird as both the carb and manifold have idle adjust screws, usually it would be one or the other. So I setup the carb as if it wasn't adjustable, and did the idle adjustment on the manifold, which has worked well.
I re-checked the CO, I set it for 4.5% at idle, which is higher than factory (2-3%) but until I get a wideband kit I'd rather run it rich.
The turbo has a bit more lateral (side-to-side) shaft play than what I would like. I'll keep an eye on it, it is just a chinabay CHRA so I may have to rebuild it with Garret bushings or something. Axial (front-to-back) play is normal.
Otherwise everything looks good. No oil leaks, no coolant leaks, no fuel leaks. The intake post-turbo had a very light oil film. Most turbo redblocks I've had have had more oil in the intake but presumably that's because the turbos are older.
The carb was still pretty clean inside but after a light cleaning the car now idles smoother so evidently there was something in there.
I need to comp test the motor and look at the pistons with a borescope still, mostly I just want to verify there's no signs of knocking or inconsistencies between the cylinders. I noticed some soot out the exhaust when cold starting but I think that is because I have probably had the choke out too far for Australian summer cold starts, which really only need maybe 30% choke.
