@Vee_Que, I had a closer look. It is a slightly different manifold, but it's just the early-early-style manifold for the Garrett TB25 turbo. Part #132680

I like the black bumpers a lot better than the aluminium look. Are you going to put a front spoller on it?

I have no immediate plans to, unless a really nice one lands in my lap. Not sure if I'd go black or yellow. I don't think I like the early GT-style one anymore.

What a nice looking car. I really prefer these models. I owned a '76 & '78 and would like to go back. The only things I didn't like was the tail lights (they always leaked, grew mould, bulb connection problems, and the bit behind that they screwed into turned to powder with sun/age). I would have liked a 5 speed instead of 4. Out of the two I prefered the '78 because they did away with the thin chrome around the front blinkers and bonnet edge, which invited rust. Also prefered the 'more natural' dash than later models (which is currently making it impossible for me to fit any stereo I want). And the older door cards. On hot days I liked to sit with my leg out the door to let air in - which I can't do with the later car because it will crack the plastic door pockets.

I still have a brand new kit of those same front lights and grill, including brackets, dash switch, instructions, etc. Bought it for my (long-gone) '76, but never got around to fitting it. Maybe I can find a '78 wagon one day to put them in. I never knew what car they came with originally. Anyone know?

What cars had the fog lights originally? They were an option on 1st gen GL models, and were (I think always) fitted to the 242GT, albeit with a different colour grille.

I got mine from @perko I think, from a 197[5|6|7|8] 245 GL he was parting out. The original reflectors had rusted out.

Also, for posterity, the original lights were Jodolux 7692. Now they are basically impossible to find, but luckily for us they were used on the Peugeot 205 GTI with driving lamps option, so there's aftermarket copies available, and that's what I'm running on my 244. These:

Yes, that's what I meant - thank you. I should have known the answer myself if I'd thought about it a bit more first. A friend owned a '77 244GL - and I took our first (used) set for our '76 from his car when he disposed of it. I think there's a slightly different grill that has two horizontal chrome strips on the grill top/bottom - but I think the grill in the kit I have is the same as yours.

LOL. Just remembering... You must've had lots of fun locating the screw holes for the brackets. I know I did('nt). The kit comes with a template you lay on the car, to correctly locate the holes. (Wish I'd had it for the first set I fitted.)

Marvellous work, thoroughly enjoyable read. Reminds me of my first car which was a '79 244GL in a very similar yellow (definitely wasn't the Light Yellow). Will have been recycled into an Excel and then into a Geely by now.

I've got it all cleaned up, but I won't make much more progress until after Easter, when Nina's turbo motor is in and the stand is free. I also have to get Nina's original B23E down to @Tigabu somehow.

I need to sort out the turbo, some of the studs snapped during disassembly, so I need to get them drilled out or whathaveyou.
