jamesinc @Slowbrick the oil filter was a red herring. The oil leak was actually coming from the oil pressure switch. At first I thought it was just not done up tightly enough, but even after tightening it, it still dripped like crazy. Upon closer inspection, the diaphragm itself has failed and the leak was coming from where the plastic insulator meets the metal part. So I bought a new one: While I could drive it around, I think I'll just leave it garaged until it turns up.
Slowbrick Ah good that you found where it was coming from! I suppose it was good that Nicks engine dumped its load in your trunk and made us look in the first place.
jamesinc
Upholstery
The front seats in Amy were one of the outstanding items on my to-do list. The driver's side was utterly terrible and the passenger side was terrible but also not holding the back up properly on one side. Last weekend, using parts from Nina's old seats and from a spare beige seat I had, I tore down both seats, replaced the foam, washed the upholstery, cleaned up the rust spots on the frames, and put it all back together. Here's some photos. The seats now use the later-style foam, which is a bit foamier, but it doesn't seem to have created any issues in terms of seat skin fitment, and they are hella comfy (except now I sit a bit higher than I'd like!)
lasercowboy Coming late to this thread [which is actually cool, like being able to watch an entire season on Netflix in one sitting rather than waiting for an episode per week] - what a fantastic restoration! I love how original you've kept all the bits that matter. It looks absolutely great. I've always thought these cars look amazing from behind - they have an almost Jag-like arse (it's the taper + square edge I think).
A_Volvo_Driver I've asked Ash about the rods on my car many times. He's pretty much said that there isn't much benefit to having them, unless you're going to go racing. Pure aesthetics I guess, kinda like getting coilovers to lower your car.
AshDVS A_Volvo_Driver;49271 wroteDid you change shocks too? I have the same combo on my car and it handles great. Same springs but James has Bilstein B4 front and rear, whereas yours has Bilstein B6 front and Bilstein B4 rear.
jamesinc It's pretty nice. The response in the front end is much tighter, but the NVH hasn't increased noticeably.
