jamesinc Also, one final note, on the passenger side the dust boot on the caliper piston dust boot had partially come out of its seat in the caliper, and there was some damage to the chrome plating of the piston. I rebuilt the caliper and re-set the boot (which is a pain in the arse, by the way). The damaged part of the piston might now be getting past the seal as the new pads are much thicker obviously and so the piston is set further into the caliper. I'm just going to keep an eye on it, if it leaks I'll order a new piston and seal kit. On the driver's side the caliper guide pins were also missing their rubber caps, so I'm on the hunt for a pair of those.
jamesinc @blondejay electroplated the lugs for Minty's wheels. See here a comparison of the re-plated, 21-year-old OE lugs and the 6-month-old aftermarket units I got from FCP.
jamesinc I have never in my life used anything other than hand tools on lugs. Also the wheels haven't been washed in ages
deleted_user_160 That's my next concern with the rx7 calipers on the 142 wheels. I don't want to spend 4hours washing and polishing, just to touch the brakes and have them covered in hot corrosive brake dust. (Like the Passat does) Currently the pads in the factory calipers are very low dust, but could be better on the braking side (that and the 140 don't have the best system in place) so who knows where to go on that route. Ash no doubt will advise. It's even worse on white or brightly coloured wheels like yours. Sucks for sure
Vee_Que My 122 dusts like mad but brakes very well. The fact I have no booster is a contributor to having them. As far as I can tell, the mu pads dust too, so basically you just can't drive it if you don't want brake dust and his braking. Low dust means low friction material which means less dust.
jamesinc I mean yeah, I just clean the wheels. The car lives outside and is black, so it needs to be washed weekly anyway.
