The FWD does treat the components harshly so getting improved bits , some urethane and better , newer designed rubber bits can help , hopefully to last longer , i doubt though that the strut top rubbers , even the XC90 or IPD strengthened ones will be as good as the other stuff , they just get such a beating! Maybe some flat bearings on the springs at each end would help? This gets technical....
K3FSAR
I've seen some pretty solid racing strut mounts for the 850 with adjustable everything! Perhaps we all need to invest in them and deal with the harsher rides :))

I have the adjustable strut mounts , these and Luxe Steer i think still use the rubber , i havent put mine in as yet , so much else to upgrade forst and discussions on how to make these cars ride better and still being low is on my agenda , more fun to be had yet! I love the 'A' arms! But the cost!! Stick with what we have with decent bushes in the A arms is probably enough.....
Replacing the ball joint by drilling out the fixed one and using one that bolts in is my next job , Ash has a source for whats needed.
K3FSAR
Those A arms are awesome. I picked up some cheap poly bushes a while back, and got the cast arms, so installation should be a breeze (famous last words)....
Ex850R
Yes indeed , it never goes as planned , mechanics should be paid a whole lot more than they do , not the price we pay to the establishment , the man on the floor....
Keep an ear out for the ball joint replacement how to , Ash said its just as easy as drilling the old one and bolting a ball joint in , do it before you swap your arms in?
K3FSAR
Yeah, I reckon I'll have another go at the 850 in a few months. That plus bushes plus cv joints plus a few other things still need fixing so..... One day :P

Those A-arms have broken a few times on the Moose Wagon in Hobartia.. .

I got my TCV today and installed it.
Still stuck at 10 psi :(
K3FSAR
Doctor.... I think we need more BOOOOOOOOOOOST! Adjusted your wastegate.....?
Ex850R
Have you checked the wastegate spring? They become weak and leak boost. If you have done all the vaccuum lines new or checked tehm for leaking first.
The Yanks have used 'dimes' to put behind the wasegate spring to strengthen it or get the eBay kit with 3 new springs OR blank it off and use a MBC (simple screw/spring ) a bit low brow , or an EBC like turbosmart , greddy , whatever the others are , benefits of either still having the TCV in line or having proper electronic control with EBC.
Another thing is the boost actuator itself , you see that on top of turbo , they can be adjusted for correct wastegate actuation with a simple gadget cobbled from bike pump and pressiure guage to set the arm to right length , there is article on it , maybe VS where simply turning 3/4 one way should give boost a big kick.
Have some fun , let us know what ha[ppens?!
K3FSAR
Is the 10psi max boost under full acceleration? Does it drop off the further you climb through the rev range?
CamZH
I've run her with the TCV disconnected and getting a solid 7 psi (which I hear is normal) so the waste gate should be ok.
I've got another ECU which is tuned and that takes me to around 14-15.
I'm getting no codes and everything else seems fine...
I'm not interested in going down the MBC path.
Oh and I get no fluctuation in boost, solid at 10psi with a little blip on changes.
K3FSAR
Hrmm..... Could be a sensor or something? I'd check and double check all hoses to the TCV again and also check intercooler hoses. Seems weird the tune works fine and throws no code, so perhaps the tune ignores a sensor or something.
CamZH
the problem with the tune is that I dont know if it is working right or not, I dont know its target boost. I dont even know who's tune it is.
1bar is stock boost (14.7psi)
I do have all new hoses for the TCV, so that will be done.
All of the intercooler piping will be replaced also.
I guess its possible that the BPS (boost pressure sensor) is stuffed and reading low...
Ex850R
There is a chance that the intercooler is leaking......Have seen them replaced at a w/shop for that reason , now there is a small bleed hole at the bottom of them somewhere that bleeds excess oil out but i dont know how that works in the scheme of things. Maybe the I/Cooler is blocked with oil residue? How was it boosting before all of this? Maybe you can remove the I/C , clean it out with liquid dishwashier soap , flush well and blow out gently with air. Or its a new one...
CamZH
I have a new FMIC intercooler sitting in a box waiting to be installed.
So if the intercooler/s is stuffed then thats fine by me !
And perhaps you're right..
If I had a laptop to run VIDA i could do a run and map pressure vs target.
This would tell me if the sensor is working ok at least.
egads (she/her)
Stock boost hose stuff? Is it doing the compress under boost and restrict intake thing?
CamZH
^I'm not sure i really follow you.
At this point all of the IC and piping is stock.
And it will all be replaced on friday.
K3FSAR
A known fault in the T5 is the stock rubber intercooler pipes compress under boost (restricts flow), which I assume what @egads is on about. I don't think it's an issue though since you have no dramas with the other tune, but your new pipes will eliminate it that's for sure.
egads (she/her)
Yeah, that is what I am on about.
