I've removed the airbag steering wheel and I'm trying to replace it with a momo wheel.

I've tried to wire up the horn but it seems the '93 is not wired the same as other years.

The airbag wheel gets 12v and earth/neg. The buttons bridge the two and sounds the horn.

My momo only has an earth connection to activate via the button/horn.

Does anyone know of a "work around" or how to rewire to make the horn work with the Momo.

No I can't put the airbag back on. I've stuffed the clock spring part. If I get desperate I could put it back on without SRS function. Alternativly I'm prepared to put a button on the dash for the horn. Would that pass a blue slip?

Cheers

To make your Momo steering wheel horn function with your '93 car that originally had an airbag system, you can add a simple relay circuit to bridge the power from the airbag wiring to the ground connection on the Momo horn button when activated. This essentially creates a "switch" using the existing airbag wiring to trigger the horn, without needing to modify the car's main wiring harness significantly.

Is a 1993 model car which originally came with an airbag going to pass a blue slip without an airbag?

No…….. I'm counting on them not realising it's supposed to have the wheel. The SRS wheel is too big for my liking.

      Ohh i see.

Forg good question, i always wondered how they pick that up, having seen VS commodores fitted with aftermarket wheels on marketplace (yes i am a bogun heathen)

I don't want to sound dumb but never really considered that and left that side of the car alone, apart from replacing same steering wheels with same on Honda's and Subaru's.

jamesinc Socket? Is that What that is? I've never taken the little cover off.

      What is this for?

Most places won't notice if there no SRS indicator light on the dash or obd2 fault codes stored. They're also unlikely to know how to retrieve them on your 240

If they did pick it up you could argue that you've removed it because the odds of a 30 year old airbag causing more harm than good if it goes off.

If there's any stickers relating to it in the engine bay/inside the car then a sharp eyed observer may pick that up.

Funny story…It turns out the reason my horn wiring didn't make sense to me was….. there was a part missing, a crucial part, the brass ring that sits at the bottom of the steering/indicator stalks' yoke. I have no idea how this happened but I realised when I decided to put the steering wheel yoke off my other car on the one I'm fixing and immediatly saw the brass ring..

Going to have find a ring replacement for my other car.

Anyway, for what it's worth anyone with an airbag can buy a boss from Sweden to fit a Momo steering wheel.

      Solved.
