So!
Driving down north road, when I hear something smash! I wasnt hooning along - so someone throwing something at the car was out of the question, I take a quick look to my left and see nothing - Nothing in my side vision mirror! Dam thing must have given up and gone fk it
Thanks to
@Ex850R I had a spare! 20 seconds later and she was back together nicely
Did a compression test while i was at it, id already gotten my hands dirty

Not too shabby for 300,000 kms
I expected the plugs to be sootier, She needs a head rebuild at some point in the future (Valve stem seals) and my fuel economy has gone from 13-14 to 16 consistently the past 3 months - suspecting she needs an O2 sensor & a MAF at some point too
With all that said... I bought a thing
Original 15G on the left that i swapped out for a 16T before the last national meet (Started howling) and the Kinugawa 20t with Billet 11 blade Compressor & Turbine on the right
My reasoning behind the 20T still being fun is that: Its still a TD04, it will still spool quite quickly, the 11 blade turbine and compressor wheels will also help with spool onset, a 3' DP will help reduce back pressure a bit
15G
Next to the GT35, it still only a little baby
The Swinburne Uni Car Club or SUCC as they call themselves hosted a dyno day at Weltmeister Eastside
Chucked the old brick on to get a baseline number and to see how many horses (Or moose) she has left after 300,000kms
@volstretch mentioned that he had her dyno'd at some point in his ownership and she got around the 140 kw atw which would have been over 8 years ago. I was hoping for around that number, if a bit less due to how rich I thought it was running
I mentioned that I felt the was running a bit odd, so Robert plotted a KW/AFR graph in addition to the standard run
Here it is! 134 KW At the wheels, but imnot sure how much torque - ill let someone work out much for me ^^
Yeah buddy!!!!!!!!
Dat ass <3
& here is a video too!! How good is that!??!
I wanted to put a better microphone on my GoPro, but GoPro want $35 for the cable, stuff that I say
The flick at the end is due to my auto trans playing funnybuggers and shifting up, cant blame it though

Overall pretty damn happy, sure upset a few people on the day, old swedish steel pulling hard AF after so many kms
If anyone has any insight as to how to read these id love some feedback as to what she is doing
Ive always felt that from a mid gear pull she felt pretty flat in the power department - revs would change slowly up but i would keep going faster at arount 10.5 psi (Damn auto tragic) which is why im so desperate to swap to manual.
Of all of the manual volvos that i have driven, the most clapped out 850r wagon with shitty clutch and knackered suspension was the BEST thing in the world, it hauled ass and sounded fantastic. There is nothing like the sound these 5 cylinders make when you are wringing it though the rev range, absoloute bliss.
SO! Whats next????
Im not keen on a chip tune, I bought the 20T because it was convenient and because why not?
My options are:
Buy a Turbo tuner ECU, $1200 ish from the UK and have Trent at Chequered tuning make up a map for the car - on a dyno - here IN Melbourne and be as safe as possible, End cost: Over 2k including the tune
OR
Buy an Ostrich 2.0 unit (EEPROM Emulator) and solder it into the ECU, allowing for even greater programmability than the TT ECU for only 200 USD, then have Trent program it using Tuner Pro, as opposed to Turbo tuner... End result: a programmable ECU with greater functionality than Turbo Tuner for Under 1k Including the Tune!
This way I can dial in a safe amount of boost, reduce fuel usage when crusing and not driving like a spastic (Highly unlikely) and have what im hoping to be a fun and reliable daily, while picking up skills and knowhow for my 240 T5 build
If I blow up the engine, I have a spare exchange motor sitting at Johns waiting for a head gasket and rods.
if I blow the gearbox? That would suck... but im not taking it to the drags, and the tune should keep me in the safe-no bendy rod zone.
Im out of coffee - let me know what ya'll think!
