ramrod

wet seal at top stem. leaking down onto sub frame and spreading all over subframe. Most of rack is bone dry.

hose connections not leaking

Will still require removal and repair. Cant see that seal being able to be replaced insitu. Racks can be a real pain to get out without dropping subframe. Too big a job for me to do from under the car. Mechanic can do it on his hoist.

So its the input shaft seal thats gone

Someone reckons you can replace the input shaft seal while rack is still in car. Probably makes sense to replace entire rack. If one seal has gone in all likelihood others will follow. So new rack it is…

Usually if one seal starts leaking , the other seals are the same age and wear & tear , as are the tie rods etc , best replace the lot and have peace of mind that your entire maintenance is up to date and safe

timbo thanks, he has one in stock, but I answered his interrogation the wrong way and he will only give his price to the mechanic who is doing the job!

If you’d like to have this fixed, I could have it done maybe later in the year

You can bring the car to me at castle hill

In a pickle with this. No new racks available. Active steering has one but being weird about pricing it and i dont like his attitude - worries me what he will be like if it leaks down the track. Has anyone got an old rack (even if leaking) I can buy as mechanic doesnt want car sitting up on the hoist for a week while waiting 2 or 3 days to get the old rack reconditioned.
