WINDSCREEN WIPERS

Wiper arms are known to warp and lift the blade off the windscreen during operation. In extreme cases collide with the bonnet.

Left arm removed, bent back into shape and refitted.

HANDBRAKE CABLE

I made a mistake and ordered sedan cables instead of wagon cables. Some mechanics told me they're all the same but it turns out they're not and theres a difference in length too.

Managed to get genuine wagon cables that were in the country too,

After spending nearly 2 weeks on axle stands its finally back together and working as it should.

I loaded it up with my family (5 of us in total + cargo) which give me an idea of how it might look when lowered. Although this is too low.

ACCESSORIES:

Managed to get a Casio T-5R watch from Japan and the factory radio remote.

During the BTCC era, a couple of BTCC 850 Racing watches were issued. A big yellow watch, completely dedicated to the T-5R, was issued in Japan. The watch is rare, but to be honest, it will not get a prize for the most beautiful T-5R gadget ever made.

Ahh the remote control, I've yet to find a HU for that one . Still in its box ..

rado I have the original head unit sc-801, but don't have the code 😅

Should have hit me up mate , mines been sitting in the box since I bought it

    Image description

I'd be happy to buy the sedan brake cables off you Morch as I've been think I ng to replace my hand brake cables and shoes etc.

242GT sounds good. Just replied to your Facebook message 😊

Another couple of items I've been chipping away at:

Found the correct wagon exhaust, cleaned it to use up some old products i had siting around using rust converter & Autosol.

        Image description

Cooling fan Maxi fuse holder clips, took an age to find the correct mounting clips but finally sourced some through Digikey:

        Image description

Also onto the foam wiper shaft bushes, but can anybody tell me the part number of the plastic cap circled in red as i can't find in on the parts books:

The round caps that go over the nut are stupidly expensive for what they are and available via Skandix but are listed on FCP , see the photo below.

I used VW Passatt , Golf , Polo , Jetta , you will need to put an O ring inside the cap before pushing it over the Nut but they work just fine and total cost was less than Aus$3.50 per wiper.Image description
The O ring was just from a multi size pack in a plastic box.

        Image description

Just insert O ring in the inner section and it will hold nicelyImage description
        That's US$23.16 each plus postage , that's Aus$36.72c each plus postage.

I have those nut caps in my shed. They're actually from a 70 series Volvo. The 850 never had those caps from factory. Definitely not in 1995 anyway.

I'm chasing the plastic cap which resides beneath the arm as per my last photos.

I've done the S70 wiper conversion on my 850R, well worth doing, I didn't like the open hole where the nut is so worked out the VW cap & O ring solution as Skandix say the cap is no longer ger available but FCP have them as a clearance item on sale.
The plastic sleeve on the wiper shaft that your after is also NLA.

The only way you'll be able to replace those sleeves is to have them machined up from a bar of black superpro poly or rubber.

Advice needed - Calling all 850 wagon owners!!

I've installed a factory silencer on my T-5R wagon but I can't get the rear hangers attached.... The pipe hangers sit too far forward.

Can people tell me what part numbers they have installed & whether my chassis hanger looks correct?

I only have one threaded hole on the chassis leg so I've no options to move it the hanger.

        Parts Installed:

        Front section: 9143639

        Silencer section: 9135407

Update on previous post: I cut the pipe hanger and rewelded it in the correct location and mounted the factory black tip. Looks the part now:

        GCP ORDER:

More items from Volvo - these particular items took over 4 months to arrive. They were ordered through a Volvo dealership but via the partnership they have with GCP. Ordering this way may save on postage but I believe it's best just order from GCP direct.

GCP tip: because the website is in a different language and the translation for each item description can been inaccurate, it's best to just get the part number from the catalogue and then search each specific part number in GCP.

I think I've also accidentally ordered doubles of certain parts - whoops!!

        Image description

A few items under the hood:

        • Oil level warning label for dipstick
        • SRS airbag decal
        • Correct bolt for headlight wiper motor (I was missing one)
        • Fuel return hoses and clamps
        • Volvo emblem for grille

Also the rear right rubber trim clip had failed, I think it's one of these Volvo clips that you would need to destroy to remove 😑

Yes I've found this too. Ben at Penrith Volvo explained that dealer orders made to GCP from Australia….. get packed in a sea container and shipped in bulk. Had a 4-6 month wait in the early days with a side skirt & rear cargo trim order on my V40.

Lesson learnt. I've since made orders direct from GCP.

          Postage was fair

          Delivery times were super fast

          FUEL TANK BREATHER HOSE:

Everytime I fuelled up I would cover rhe forecourt floor with fuel. Common problem on the 850 is the fuel breather hose failing.

I replaced mine yesterday along with the funnel gasket. Although I need to source a new clamp for this gasket as mine has collected moisture and rusted slightly.

          3D PRINTING:

tried printing NLA parts such as the wiper shaft bush and the door lock mechanism bush (available but super expensive from skandix)

Trial 1 was a fail as they were too brittle. Trial 2 I'll add more flex additive.
