Fitted up the front bumper trim on Thursday. Easy job, pop in the clips, bang on the trim….Bob's your uncle. Yeah, nah.
If I was the apprentice, the boss would be yelling at me.
Place the clips in the holes.
Drift in the pins gently with a punch.
Make sure all the old clips are out of the trim. This one was "the clip from hell" did not want to come out and I didn't want to damage the delicate rubber on the trim.
Lay out the trim. Timestamp 2:43PM
First edge in. Timestamp 3:04PM Total time 21 minutes.
Bloody hell, I'll never get a job at Volvo installing trim. It SEEMS straightforward but there seems to be all sorts of angles involved. Pop on in at the front and it will pop out the back. They go in all at the same time, all at once.
I ended up sort of pushing the whole lot forward with two hands around the corner and sliding it down.
Know I've done it right when those bottom edges "squish out" gently on the bumper bar and hear some "clicks" as the clips lock in. It's rather satisfying when it happens and doesn't seem too hard when everything lines up.
Next timestamp 3:50PM A further 46 minutes
Thought I'd replicate the gentle push and slide but could not pull it off straight away. I could not pull it off for a long, long time. Finally, when the planets were in alignment……..again a gentle slide in and some clicks. The centre trim only took a couple of tries.
Dressed the bumper and very pleased with the results. Checked the trim again and they are all well seated firmly in place.
