Post mortem on the rear wiper motor out of curiosity.
Safety Capacitor - Hydra 10066sp1 0.43uF 100V …..blown at base
Diode - IFF BY252 Diode ….cracked in half
T shaped insulation tray …..melted
Bit of heat up the business end of the motor.
Melted insulation film cover and scorch marks on the foam deadening ring.
Various burnt detritus dropped out when I opened it up.
A look inside and quite a bit of damage.
On the positive side. The cad fittings and galvanized framework look bright & factory fresh. Almost no corrosion over the years.
There seems to be a limited supply of the 240 rear wiper motors, not sure when they discontinued supply. I'll give Berry a call.
The good news is this 70's based SWF wiper unit was used in a lot of other rear wiper Euro models of the era Golfs, Capris, Opels, Renaults. The Porsche 928 is pretty well a matching copy except for the cable mounting bracket, it has the exact same suppression diode and safety capacitor. And although they have ceased making new wiper units for the 240, Valeo (who took over SWF) still make a unit for the late 90's VW Transporter. Looks like it will fit if I'm looking for something brand new.
