I brought them from a person who had a 160 series and early 1s and 2s he assured me that it fitted to either the 1 series I had at the time or the 2 series I had. I'll see if I can find parts numbers.

Brehon47 Thanks. All of the ones I've seen in Australia so far have been 164, but I am lead to believe power steering was optional for 140s, but unsure if for RHD or only for LHD cars.

I'm pretty sure it's a 164 power steering set up as I had a 1973 164 many years ago with power steering and it looks very familiar.
Could possibly he adapted to 140 with a suitable steering rack and rod ends.

242GT I've seen the 164 set up adapted to a 140, rather crudely with the part of the steering cut and welded back together and then reinforcing pieces welded on to the cut section, which I wasn't a fan of.

A sleeve over the join pinned both sides welded too would do it .

That's a very good price - the Rover guys snapped up all the 164 power steering boxes from the 164s I wrecked - they said some people are paying $700 for them (although I think I sold them for about$ 300-350 each)

I’m not saying anything that hasn’t already been said, but just to be clear:

It is not for any sort of 2-series.
If it fits a 164, then it doesn’t fit a 140 (and vice-versa).

On probability, it’s going to be a 164 setup.

I believe that every 164 came with PS, but RHD PS 140s are incredibly rare and may not even exist at all.

There's plenty of 140s overseas with power steering, and I've had the pleasure of driving a RHD one many years ago, but no idea if it was a modified 164 set up or not.

I've got a left hand rear tail light assembly that I couldn't find when last year you were interested. Its the French CIBIE. It's in very good condition.

That's a 164 power steering box and pump.

It's very rare to find 140s with power steering, especially RHD ones.

To fit this steering box into a 140, you need the 164 relay arm, which needs to be fitted to the 140's relay arm bracket. The 164's relay arm bracket is significantly bigger than the 140's version, however 140 and 164 relay arms both use the same bush.

Note the parts book lists the relay arm and its bracket as a single unit.

The item at top of pic is the 164's relay bracket and idler arm (big bracket) while below it is a 140 relay arm bracket fitted with a 164 idler arm.

The 164's relay bracket and idler arm is listed as a single assembly (p/n 678928-3 for RHD - Group 6, page 2, item [10] of the 164 parts book) and likewise the 140's is also listed that way (p/n 1212484-8 for RHD - Group, 6, page 4, item [10] of the 140 73+ parts book),

However, both 164 and 140 share the same bush - p/n 671444-8 - which allows you to put the 164's idler arm on the 140's bracket when you're putting a 164 power steering box into a 140.

So if you're planning to do a 140 power steering conversion from a scrapped 164, make sure you also salvage the relay lever and bracket as well as the power steering kit.

The Pittman arm from the 140's steering box won't fit on the 164's power steering box, which is why you need to do this change.

Here's a better view of the bush on the bracket (and youbetcha - this bush will be changed before seeing service again!)
