Interesting? Nothing really important there is there? Those seat heater switch sockets clip onto the plastic there somewhere. It was an effort to unclip them through the cubby part I remember to put my R seats into the V70.

On the inside of mine, there was definately nothing to clip them onto, so I tucked them aside around the little bin thing and coin holder.

Here's the differences in connectors - it just looks like one was superseded at some point by the other.
I pulled my loom and ODBII connector from the original and swapped it over.

Thinner style, as in my car -

And the thicker style, as per the donor console -

Console is now back in, sans handbrake boot and console lid - waiting on these to arrive from Redline.

@Ex850R , the woodgrain will come out of the back of the console, it simply clips into place.
Mine has been glued though - you might use a die grinder to get it off from the inside.
Lots of the trim lugs were broken off in mine too. It appears its been out before.

It wouldn't offer any better contact so why? Weird.

The thicker connector appears to be a little more robust but pins probably aren't any bigger or better.
I don't know what year the donor was. The guys had pulled it already and it was ready for me to pick up when I got there.

Ah, that makes sense. It did take me an afternoon to do so combine the cost of that and a soldering iron and it does look better for someone else to fix it

Its a tough one. I enjoy that sort of thing though, so I often feel bad if I don't do it.
But shortly, my weekends will be eaten up and booked out again so I can find myself a little short on time.

Here's a quick pic of the trim swap. Needs a scrub still and the handbrake surround and boot refitted as well as the console lid.

I agree. Going to have to do something similar I think, just means I will need a steering wheel too.

@Rob , an option might be to pick up a used steering wheel and send it off for re-trimming.
I've got a couple of little things coming from Redline Goods (a handbrake boot and console lid). Good to deal with, their work looks great. I'll let you know what mine are like when I have them in my hand.
Assuming I'm happy, I'll send a wheel off to them to do as well.

The R trim looks so much better than the woodgrain, especially when the woodgrain has started to fade like mine has. How hard was it to find trim in decent condition?

Definitely. Mine is not perfect, particularly near the handbrake opening, but it is pretty good.
Not sure if theyre easy to come across or if I was lucky.

I got mine from Berry Motor Group in Mitcham (Vic) but Les on here also has a set which may be for sale.

On my car, I'm just going to bin the original grille and swap in one from a V70XC.
I havent bothered to refit the original after changing the bonnet over either.

Free length of springs for US spec cars is typically longer. I've not had a US spring in my hand to have a real look or even a measure.

Speaking of which, whats the chance I may be able to borrow one of each of your IPD springs (just need one front and one rear) for a couple of days?
I'm just curious to measure them up so I can start to compile some numbers around some of the available spring options.

Gotcha. I've had a really quick read. Sounds like simply a bracket to move the lower shock mounting point down.
Would be (in theory) easy enough to make up without being massively complicated.
From there, you could probably swap in/out some spring options I'd think.

I read about it being possible to swap over the nivomat setup to a conventional setup on AWD models too, but it wasn't a bolt in-bolt out affair as per the FWD.

I'll poke around and see what is in the H&R listings too and let you know.

anyway. They could option theirs with 'sport' suspension which has shorter Nivomat units and springs ......The best option for lower on my R (which I am not after really) is coil overs in the rear.
The TME kit they talk of is lower springs and the bolts and spacer for the mount. So its the spring length we have anyway.

Odds are that this kit would be close to our shock specs anyway (if not the same).

mmm , the post missed half of what i wrote above....Never mind, mobile posting doesnt work too well for me fer some reason!
Their R is our normal ride and spring they can option lowered sport which is Euro/AUS spec so they compromise the longer nivo by putting the bolts in and cut the spring OR use the TME kit which cost so much it was worth them buying new Euro/AUS spec Nivomat's and Euro springs (from Dale WaltrupVolvo who sold stuff so cheap that made it worth getting stuff from him sent HERE ! But no longer in business...Alegedly)

I think my R is going to outstrip your "Ratty" tag by miles ! See my update......

Not much of an update really. Last weekend was a race weekend, as is this one (though this one is really only sunday)
If I can get a few things done in the morning, I might be able to find an hour or two in the afternoon tomorrow.

Since there hasnt been any time to do any real work, boxes and parcels of stuff have just been turning up and I've been ordering a few odds and ends.

Headlight eyebrows arrived

Springs should be here early in the week coming, as should the rear shocks and some additional bushes.
Pads arent far away either. Rotors are already here.
First up for the real stuff is the rear end - I'll do some the arm bushes at the same time as the rear springs, shocks, shock mounts, rear rotors and pads.

I havent had much more of a chance to chase up the Ohlins rebuild, but I'm not too stressed about that at the moment as I need all the front end hardware as they need to be assembled before re-gassing.

Debating whether I should find another LF guard for it too. There are a few dints in the top of it and one near the indicator. Not as bad as the RF (which I have a replacement for) but it is annoying me under flouro lighting.

Thats sorta where I'm at. I wont clean the interior up too much just yet until I'm finished putting it all back together.
