Got some new ezy-outs today to finish trying to fix the XT... 2 months after I pulled the cover off... not looking forward to this game.

Couldn't help myself I discovered enough garage space for a small bike providing the mower lives outside?

Ended up working out what had happened in a number of stages:

1) How to remove the flywheel and magnet bit:
  • There's 6 holes in the fly wheel, all with threads.
  • There's 3 holes with threads in big magnet bit of the stator, and 3 without.
So, using the three unthreaded holes I was able get a puller onto the flywheel and after keeping it in tension for a couple of days and and applying some inox a sharp tap to the centre of puller had it off.

That means I could get to the back of the threads and drill them out more easily... More accurately, a mate drilled them out for me; one came out on the end of the drill (pushed through) whilst the other needed a bit more work and an Ezy-Out to pull it out.

2) Why had 2 bolts stuck in?
Well, they'd been run through both threads, so they were forced slightly apart and put under a decent amount of load. When you look on the parts list, there's only 3 bolts used not 6, so that's how it's going back together.

Oneway clutch on the other hand - absolutely rooted. About 7 bearings had broken up, so that definitely needs to be replaced. The good news is we can put it back together on the bench and then refit in one piece in the same way it came off.

Knew there had to be a thread somewhere ?

thruxton now has 50k on it

I remember taking a Thruxton for a test ride , great bike ?

it's got all the fancy suspension, brakes, blah blah. motor is coming apart over the winter for more cc's and forged internals.

Has anyone had a crack on one of those little braaap ss125's?

The road bike got new chain & sprockets today.

It came with a pair of sprockets and two chains when I bought it. Both chains had been cut too short?!

Have bodged it for now, will buy a proper joining link ASAP.

Also bled the front brakes, they are better but still unimpressive.

The day I brought the CB400 home. Needs a new chain as the original one on it has 44k on it and is clicking and clattering like mad. I dont have the chain press tool so will probably just pay someone to do it so I can do other things. Other than that its a pretty sweet little bike.

44 thousand kilometres on one chain!! Wow!

Yeah he wasn't super mechanically minded and was very open about that fact. I guess just riding around the city it didn't really get stressed. It sure does look tired now though.
