9. Gear shifter - The Supra gear shifter position is 3.5” further forward than the centre of the shifter hole in the 700 series. To get around this, I removed the upper section of the Toyota gear shifter, leaving a thin steel rod. Using a blowtorch, I then bent this rod rearward and upward so it would come up in the middle of the 700 shifter hole.A piece of steel bar with a hole bored in one end was then tightly fitted over the thin shifter rod, and welded to secure it. Further bends were added to clear the edge of the console. An aftermarket aluminium billet gear knob was fitted to the top, after trimming the rod to a suitable length.
Standard 700 series rubber and leather shifter boots and manual console insert were used. The lower rubber boot was trimmed at the front to give the shifter clearance.
