Second bracket is now also done, and I painted them and stamped them "JD 2018". I like stamping stuff I make, I think it's a nice professional touch.

Last night I mostly went about tidying the harnesses. I unpicked the wires from those corrugated tubes that I hate so very much, and went about trying to recycle original vinyl harness sheaths. I'll probably have to retain one big fat tube across the top of the firewall, but otherwise I've removed most of it. I've re-grouped a lot of wires, I ran a new loom across the front of the car from the battery corner to the driver's corner where the relay packs are.

I stopped because I am fed up with my shitty crimper and these are 50A rated cables so I want really high quality crimps. I'm going to Jaycar to buy the "nice" open terminal crimper they sell today.

How about big arsed heat shrink tube?
Run wires in it and just heat at the ends and where clamps are? I have some and am thinking of uses.... Nice blue grey colour too. Not cheap, dunno if Jay car do long lengths though.

On the stamping your mark idea, I am media Blasting the company logo and www. On the stainless bits in the jobs. Polish the stainless to brushed look and blast n logo then light brush over top. Looks ace.
Do your stuff in staino!?
Or powder coat the carbon steel?
But Ottawa but makes for real pro job.
I wonder if home powder coat machine is a thing?

No, apologies, staino as in short for stainless steel, it's colloquially used by pipeys, ie, pipe fitters! Boileys for Boilermaker. Sparky for electrician etc.

Pix show, in no particular order, the reasonable brushed finish, its good enough for the use of the object.
Then masked with a laser cut bit of staino as template in the media Blasting cabinet then closeup of the finish it gives.
A wipe wipe staino polish oil and it's good!

Oh man, good crimping tool, where have you been all my life?

The relay wiring is just about finished. I need to do a plug for the radiator fan, and wrap the wiring to the pressure switch and the compressor itself. The empty slot is for another relay if I decide I want to run the high speed at a later date.

Relay block looks neat. One bit of advice is to grease all of the pins before plugging in the relays. I've had issues with condensation caused by warm components in enclosed spaces causing rust and intermittent electrical problems.

Google "non insulated crimp tool". I have one too and it's great for making connections with factory and custom looms.

I used these when building the harness in the 245. I used to use the solder shrink terminals which are also fine but Ive found these seem feel a little bit more durable and are easier to get into small places where using a heatgun could be hazardous.

I need to make up a sticker or something for the relay block to indicate what each relay is. The annoying thing is the Hella relay for the spot lights uses a weird pin configuration where pin 30 is where pin 85 normally goes.

Yeah something like that. Or di electric grease they use in marine applications. It's in winter the most damage is done because of the cold weather and warm relays.

I'll come and get that stuff once Billie is out of my garage, but assuming I can use the pins from the B21 I'll just replace those.
